I have seen some posts where people say the Magic Bands + are only good for opening the stateroom doors on the cruise & cannot be used for charging, photopass or interactive events. Has anyone traveled in the last month that can confirm or deny. Thanks Very Much. Don't want to spend $40 for just a "Door Key"

I will be going on my 9th cruise in November. I never used a Magic Band. I never missed having one. Now some folks love them. I don’t even use them at the parks. I prefer the card. I don’t like wearing them. And now that my son’s are in their 20’s they don’t care for them.
But it’s all a personal choice. I am not the person to inform you what a Magic Band can be use for.

Since, almost everything except alcohol is included, I don’t usually need my card. At dinner when you order a cocktail, if memory form last fall serves me they ask for your card.

I am sure someone will chime in with the answer you are seeking. I believed there was a thread just this week asking the same question.

🚢😎👍🏻💫✨

It does also work for payment everywhere on the ship and Castaway, sometimes you have to take it off and hand it to them though. Photographers scanned them to link photos as well. They lit up during certain events (atrium lighting) and during the dinner shows. The only thing I couldnt use it for was getting in and out of the rainforest room, and on and off the ship.

I have mine for an upcoming cruise - but I really don’t think it is necessary. I don’t even like wearing a watch - I have handed off two Apple Watches already due to lack of use. Disney does a pretty good job of marketing to get us to buy stuff!

I am fairly sure I could have just continued on with the key card only. Even If it does the few things you are wondering about - will that be enough to justify it - to you - for that expense.

We used our bands on the Fantasy this week and I used it far more than expected-

I was amazed how many people had the bands (we were the first sailing for them)

Oh nice to hear a Fantasy report! We leave this month and purchased the bands so I was wondering how the first sailing went. Did you have any issues with it at all?

I want to wait and see if it's worth it. Let them work the kinks out and then see how useful it is. If you still have to take it off to charge items to your room, it would be kind of a waste. Might as well just use your card.

We have a cruise next summer and I’m looking forward to my DS12 having one. Then he doesn’t have to carry around a room key when he’s not with us but can easily get into the room to get changed or pick up things. My husband and I won’t have one.

Not anything really noticeable- our only quickly fixed issue was my kiddo had kids club band charge despite her never getting one (we brought her +band)

the poor kids club workers needed a stiff drink the first few days as their sensors weren’t playing nice with I assume the +bands as it kept constantly beeping and sounding alarms but I saw many IT looking people around the next days and never heard the alarms again..

It being the first sailing the crew had to break/adjust their spiels which you could tell by the end was getting on autopilot to say card or band. It was about 50/50 if we had to remove the band or just tap and it became more 70/30 by the end as the tap buttons slowly were rearranged-

They’ll need to outfit the mobile bar servers with devices as that’s the pinch point I saw as they’d often have 2-3 bands in hand filling orders which had 2 been the same could be an issue..

I wasn’t necessarily impressed with the light up parts (they were fun to watch in animators 2nd night)

Thank you for the report! I didn't realize they would interact at Animator's so that is good to know! Hopefully they continue to work out the issues before we get on board. I'll be sure to pay attention about the kids club bands since we won't be getting those either.

@PAGA2003 Are you back? Don’t forget to report. We are in the Sept. 4-8 Wish Member Cruise and am super curious before we go. I may bring along our lanyards just in case we opt for cards.

If you've sailed DCL previously, you will still receive the current Castaway Club gits (including the lanyard) on the DVC Member Cruise. On previous Member Cruises, DVC also gave out special lanyards for the cruise. Also, you will still receive key cards as those must be used when you leave and reboard the ship in ports of call.
