Magic Bands info for the new test dates in August

But next question is if they're doing a test of the FP+ system during our time there, will it be harder to get FPs the old way? Will there be less issued through the FP machines onsite? So will things like Toy Story Mania be out of FPs even earlier in the day now?

I am curious if we will get reports about how FP- has been affected from this test?

This is still only a fraction of the WDW guest, so this test still might not give us much in details.

I am staying at POP Aug 17-24. I called twice today because I couldn't link everyone in my reservation to my fp+ reservations. The first time I called, the CM said she spoke to several supervisors and that there is absolutely no test for fp+ for August.
The second time I called I spoke to an IT. She said there is definitely a test going on in Aug, and that you should get an email notifying you about the test, but their emails have been really delayed. She said if you have the option to make the fp+ reservations then you are part of the test. She was able to see my reservations in the system. She also said that we would not be able to use the old FP system along with FP+.
Who knows since I got two completely different responses in one day. I made the reservations for FP+ and am just hoping we are part of it!

Your best bet when calling. When the prompt comes on just say magic bands you are direct right to IT. Which means no entering any info. The phone rang once and someone picked up.

Another day, another CM, another explanation! This one answered the phone "My Magic+ Testing," so it got my hopes up! Here's what he said:

According to the CM, and as PP noted, the emails to potential testers are going out 17 days prior to arrival. Magic Bands will be sent to your home no later than 3 days prior to arrival. However, it's the arrival date at your qualifying resort that they go by, so if you're staying at another resort prior to your MM+-eligible stay, the system doesn't recognize it. They can expedite your MB shipment, supposedly. (I feel like we should be typing in "supposedly" after every sentence at this point!)

Stays at non-testing Disney resorts (aka anything other than AK, CR, YC, and POP) prior to your arrival at a testing resort are not eligible for FP+ reservations. However, if you are checking out and moving to another Disney resort, you can make FP+ reservations for that stay as well. (Supposedly. ;))

Also, he said that it's likely -- but not certain -- that we'll be able to access "legacy FP's" in addition to FP+ during this test. (Supposedly. :lmao:)

Funny note: Yesterday, one of the CM's I talked to told me something that she thought would happen but wasn't entirely sure about. She said, "Don't quote me on this. I don't want to see 'Becky in IT told me such-and-such' on the DISboards!" To which I replied, " Yeah, you have to be careful of those DISboards!" And, very softly, she responded, "You have no idea."

Has anyone with a RO reservation with tickets linked been selected for the test? We arrive 8/24 but MDE has no live links to FP+ or Magic Bands for us.

Just don't want to arrive to find out we must use FP+ and have no FP+ reservations made.

Thanks!

I do have a room only for one night and have magic bands for that as well. This is a test you can opt out by doing nothing. This is only for select resorts.

How did you get Magic Bands for your RO reservation? Do you have tickets linked on MDE? I am wondering why I am not able to select the Magic Bands selection-it says I need to link tickets-but when I go to my itinerary, the tickts are clearly there.

I am fine with no Magic Band and No FP+, just want to make sure I am not missing something.

Yes I do because we have a package a few days after.

THIS is the part that worries me. It seems Disney thinks that when this darn thing goes live, it's going to be tough to do last minute FP+ times. Either to get the first time or change things. I do not want to be planning what time I'm doing everything so far in advance. I want flexibility. I have 4 kids, one ASD and one a preschooler, I NEED flexibility. At least with normal FP, I stand as much of a chance getting something as anyone else walking into the park at the same time. I could feed the quirks.

I am worried about ASD preschooler and my toddler and what seems like it could be a lack of flexibility. Just wish I knew what was going on and that there weren't so many conflicting reports.

This is ridiculous. How is it possible? How is Disney such a successful corporation with these kinds of discrepancies? I don't get it.

In addition to my email, I just received an invitation from WDW to test MyMagic+ that was delivered moments ago by UPS.

Ugh! I'm still so torn on whether or not to do this...and it's like Disney knows it so they keep tempting me.

Okay, so this is a really stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway! :confused3

For people who are getting the Magic Bands, does that automatically rule you out of using the old FP system? I haven't been in a couple years, but back then you had to insert your KTTW card into the slot and out came your FP ticket. If you have magic bands, then no card, right? So how would you get the old style FPs? Or do they have those Mickey head things that read the wrist bands now?

Just trying to figure this whole thing out!

That's sort of the $64K question. Posters have reported different answers from phone CMs. The truth is you might be given a card to use as a back-up that may or may not work in the FP machines.

Nothing personal against anyone on their way to Disney. I want everyone to be able to use FP to its fullest so they can enjoy their vacation. But if they really want to get this up and going for real soon, they're going to HAVE to get some sort of testing done that precludes double dipping.

Ok - we have 3 hotel reservations for our upcoming trip. 2 nights at AKL and then 5 nights at Pop on one reservation and then 3 more at Pop on another (cheaper per night rate).

We bought our tix from UCT - 8 day hoppers. We are NOT going to the parks on our AKL days. However, when I logged on to DME today, I had the option to customize 3 MB for each of us - so 12 bands total...good Lord.

Here is my question - do I really want to link my tix to my MB....since I will have to get a THIRD band for the second part of our Pop stay? Can they transfer my tix from one band to another?

I hate this. Just seeing how planned out some of you guys' vacations are - gives me hives. Ick ick ick.

I am willing to test it out next month only to see if going back to WDW will be in the cards for us. If this thing is as big a hassle as I am making it in my head....we will stop visiting.

Thanks for anyone who can answer my question...

I'm kind of concerned if they don't limit those with FP+ out of the regular FP. So already all those FP+ that have been reserved will be unavailable to the rest of us. And then those same people will be able to come in and get regular FPs as they always have. Seems like that may mean some of the most popular FPs disappear even earlier in the day and if you're not there first thing, you'll be out of luck. Am I the only one seeing it that way?

On the other hand, I wouldn't want to be one of the FP+ users who used up my three passes on things like parade and firework viewing, only to find out I can't get anything from the old system once I'm in the park! Imagine not being able to pull any FPs at the park at all, especially if you'd been told different by a CM!

I hear you. I'd feel the same way. We were there in December when a fairly good size test was going on, and I can say I didn't feel like anything ran out that much sooner than I would have expected. The only thing I noticed was how much slower the standby lines were on attractions that don't normally have FP but had FP+ for the test.

And I think anyone participating in the test has to go into it with the idea that any access to regular FP is just a bonus. I wouldn't feel sorry if they ended up with no FP because they have to know that is a risk. Although Disney should be more up front on this point.

My MB statues went from Customize to being shipped soon this morning.

I'm not expecting to be able to use FP-. I mean if we are great but you need to make sure this is something you want to do. Not expect to be able to have access to both.

Do you even have a choice? If you're eligible for FP+, is there any way to NOT take part? Even if I hadn't logged in and customized everything, it looks as though that's be way it is for my trip. Customization was just a bonus. So I don't think anyone really even has a choice.

That's the way I've interpreted this test and latest bunch of FAQs. I'm guessing if you don't register and order the band and book your FPs, you will get to the hotel, and they will give you a grey band and then ask you if you want to make selections and tell you how to do it.
