Magic Bands info for the new test dates in August

Ordered my bands on Tuesday. Yesterday they said they were ready to be shipped and no more changes could be made and today.. I got a email saying they have shipped via UPS and the tracking number says they will be at my doorstep on Monday!. I have not received an email prior saying I was part of the test group. I check in at the YC on 8/16 so maybe at the 17 day mark I will get the official email.

Same here! We will be there from August 17th-24th and we are staying at the Contemporary. As soon as MDE was available, I did everything in there. I was able to:

1. Customize the Magic Bands (blue/red/pink/"tinkie" green)
2. Get all of our FP+ (no bonus FP+ though )
3. Get our entire itinerary into MDE (hotel reservations & dining reservations)

This morning I got the e-mail from Disney Destinations with subject line "Great News: Your MAGICBAND package has shipped!" which included a UPS tracking #!! (Package left TN and is now in KY!!). But we have not received any e-mails about being part of any test group. If I didn't read the boards, I'd think this was totally in the up & up on the part of Disney, and that MagicBands and FP+ are 100% live.

I don't know if this is a very elaborate goof on the part of Disney, but I'm getting pretty exited!!!

I did not receive an email to participate, but was able to set up my fast passes + for my entire stay. I had the IPO at Yacht Club confirm that I was a part of the testing, and today I received an email stating that my magic bands had been shipped via UPS. I hope I'm really a part of the testing. That's a lot of wasted cost to ship magic bands to guests who are not going to be able to use them. Here's to hoping for the best!

I just got shipping confirmation on both sets of magic bands?! I don't know whether to be excited or begin mass panic maybe a bit of both?! I had checked al my folders for the original email and there was nothing there but this was of course after I had signed up for them from MDE and then read here that you had to have received the email first. I guess we shall see. Now the delima is do I set up a fastpass+ date or do I just wing it during the last two weeks next month?? Does anybody know if you ca do both? I mean some days regular fastpass and some days fastpass+?? I guesss whatever the outcome even a fastpass free day at WDW has got to be better than a work day, RIGHT!

So far, we haven't heard from anyone staying at the August test sites that have said they won't be getting the bands from Disney? I understand some will turn them down, but Disney is opening it up to everyone at all the test buildings?

I don't know about that. We arrive August 16 and have not received an email about our bands shipping as I read someone arriving on August 17 has...... We are at Pop. I ordered and customized the bands....

But you were allowed to order and customize. And it's not 17 days before your visit. Did you check your spam filter?

Me too. I'm waiting to see a post from someone who reserved FP+s, customized bands, and doesn't see them active and shipped out before 17 days. I really can't imagine receiving the bands and then being told we are not part of the test.

If they are active, I'd bet they have been created and shipped.

To get the bonus fast pass I took the preselected choices for MK, got POTC, then went back and changed all the preselected choices to MY choices. Don't know if there is an easier way but a few other posters have said that's how they got their bonus FP.

I've checked everything. And I know we are still about 30 days, but the person arriving a day after us has received notification.

When did you customize your bands? I'm arriving to YC on the 17th and mine have shipped, but I ordered the very second that I realized I could on Tuesday afternoon. Also, they may just be shipping them out in batches based on any number of other things (locations, colors, resorts, etc).

What do you see when you log into MDX and click on "manage MagicBands"?

Just did the same thing and it works!!

I didn't mess with our first day, even if it is just 3 FP+ (we really like the selections we did). But I did modify the other 2 MK days and got a bonus FP+ PoTC in each!

In one I switched all FP+ selections. For the other, strangely enough, the selections were better than if I had picked them myself! I even kept the PoTC in that one.

I should have done all as Fastpick to begin with.

-you will have access to regular fastpass....I asked if I had to use all my fastpass+ first, I was told I could use regular fastpass at anytime since we will also be getting a key to the world card

I'm hoping this is what happens.

I was told that I had to use my FP+ first, and then I could use FP-.

I don't know what to believe, and it's making the decision of when to schedule FP+ times very difficult. Last night I second guessed a lot of my choices and changed some of them.

Well, they're your Magical Express ticket for one - if you're using that. And, the whole point of the band - per the All things D interview - is for you to be so immersed in the Disney experience you don't want to go anywhere else. They're also planning more and more functionality. My guess is eventually, you will be able to choose some sort of "express check in" and be texted your room number on the Magical Express and go straight to your room - which will be active on your MagicBand.

Just as a side note, in MDE, under the status of the magic bands it says both my sons and my magic bands are "active" and they give an ID number along with both. Maybe the people who haven't received their shipping notices can check to see if there band is active.

I don't know this for certain, but I suspect that they are customized at an off-site location, would need to be shipped to the resorts anyways, so not much different than shipping direct to customers (probably lose some economy of bulk shipping), they'd need storage at the resorts for all the bands they need to give out, and keep it organized so they can be found and given to the correct guests, etc.

They only need to ship the ones that are customized well enough in advance. Wait too long and they will be shipped to the resort. Wait really too long, and you'll get the generic "iconic gray" bands kept on hand.

And they only need to ship to any given person once (at least every so many years). Those that customize are probably not the guests that are only ever going to use these once (although it is possible for them to do)...Disney is betting on them being re-used multiple times.
