It notifies you in you My Disney Experience notifications when they ship.
This could be a bit in flux as well though with the new MagicBand Upgrade option that was supposed to start yesterday. In case you didn't see it, they're making it so instead of choosing from the regular colors, you'll be able to apply a $14.99 (price of standard MBs) towards some of the specialty MagicBands. It was supposed to become available yesterday afternoon, but it's being pushed out and there's no date yet when they're making it available - the guess is probably an IT issue (but who knows). Disney's official Twitter account was telling people early in the day yesterday that it would be available in the afternoon, then in the afternoon they started saying basically TBD and to watch DisneyParks Blog for more info and when it starts.
The interesting thing is that in the DisneyParks Blog announcement, it said that you could upgrade and customize up to 11 days before arrival and have them shipped to your house, 6 days to have them available at the resort at check-in. This would appear to change the 30 day customization window.
