Magic Bands from previously cancelled trip

I had previously booked a trip for August 2020. At that time I ordered 5 magic bands, and "upgraded" to graphic designs. I also paid for the upgrades. Then, when things hadn't gotten better we cancelled our vacation and have subsequently rebooked 5 times. We are now planning to go Winter 2022. What happened to the magic bands we previously ordered, and will we need to buy new ones. I also see they are getting rid of bands come September, so will we even need to order any. I see no indication in my MDE that the previously ordered bands still exist. Thanks!

1. What happened to the magic bands we previously ordered, and
2. will we need to buy new ones.
3. I also see they are getting rid of bands come September...
1. Only Disney knows that (if ANYBODY even knows.)
2. Call Disney and explain that you already paid, etc. Be sure to "Ask nicely" for what you'd like.
3. That's news to me. ???

They’re getting rid of bands in September? Do you have a source for this information? This is the first I’ve seen it. I was hoping to use my bands from May 2020 when we go in 2022.

Perhaps I misread the announcement and it only applies to "free" bands. Sorry about that.

Please note: Starting in 2021, we plan to unveil an innovative new offering as part of the My Disney Experience app that will bring features of a MagicBand to your smart devices. Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels with an arrival date through December 31, 2020 will continue to receive complimentary MagicBands. With the new My Disney Experience offering, MagicBands will no longer be provided on a complimentary basis with new reservations for Disney Resort hotel Guests with arrivals beginning January 1, 2021 and beyond.

Edit to add: I still have my magic band order confirmation so I could use that I suppose. I'll be nice, too.

Did you pay for the MBs but never received them? Were you refunded? If you paid for MBs and never received them nor received a refund, you should call Disney to enquire as to what happened to those ordered MBs. If you have the MBs or if they ship them to you, they will still work in September. As mentioned, there are no longer free MBs included with a WDW booking, so you would need to purchase some if you never received the others and would like them for the September trip. MBs are not required, however.

Generally they don't ship until a couple weeks before your vacation. I did not receive a refund nor did I receive the bands. We cancelled in July, a full month before our planned trip. I thought, since we just kept switching our reservation dates, the bands should stand, but they aren't there. I'm hesitant to rely on older bands, though they should be fine. However, I did actually take the plunge and pay for graphic ones, which was a departure from my usual order for the complimentary bands.

ETA: :I'll call when I have the time to work my way through the call center labyrinth, or an hour or so to kill, lol. I also just checked and they are no longer offering 2 of the bands I had previously ordered. I also just went through my entire card statement from last year and this year to date, and no refund. The original charge is there, though. It's my Disney card and since I only use it for Disney, there wasn't much charged on it from last year to present.

If you paid for them and did not get a refund and did not receive them you should be contacting Disney to either have thejm sent free of additional charges or get a refund.

Not sure where you got your info that they are randomly no longer using magic bands come September???
As of January MB's have not been free.

This was only true if you ordered all complimentary ones. Once they started offering the discounted specialty ones, they shipped a few days after the order was finalized/payment made, even if some of the bands in the order were complimentary. You should have received them no matter how many times you shifted the trip, since you said the payment was charged.

Let us know what they do for you. I assume they will refund, and you can place another order from the current selection, if you want.

Yes, I got the message that my order was being processed, but then nothing. It could be that I originally cancelled the trip, then went in and rebooked. After I had issues trying to get my reservation back, I just started moving the dates. Plus, my original trip was for the Royal Room at POR, which I don't believe has even reopened. Thanks; I'm kind of disappointed in the current selection of MBs, but really like the new solid colors. I also really wanted the Marie/Paris one for my granddaughter, so may have to buy it off ebay or something like that.

That’s my point, that once the MagicBand order was processed (payment made), it should have had nothing at all to do with what you did with the reservation. It’s a different department, and once paid, it should have been shipped. But since it didn’t, who knows? Did the email you got about the order have tracking info? It should have. I realize that was long enough ago that you may not have access to the email, but that’s what typically happens.

Anyway, good luck with the situation, and with getting bands that your family is happy with! Once the new colors came out, I placed our order for our June trip (Elsa for my granddaughter, a few of the new colors, Mickey for one grandson, etc.). They have been shipped, and I have a tracking number already. Of course, a few days after I placed the order, they started offering the 25th anniversary “cake castle” band, which my adult daughter would have loved — that year was her first trip, when she was 5! — but such is life. I told her we will just have to schedule another trip!

As of January MB's have not been free.

I’m not sure if it’s just for AP and not resort guests, but right now I have the option of buying mb or getting gray for free since my AP renewal.

Definitely call and find out about a refund for not shipped mb that were paid.

You mean this one?

ETA: We were there also. It was a definite OMG moment. lol

We ordered specialty bands for a May 2020 trip that we cancelled before receiving the bands. Still received the bands.

As others said, your specialty MB order should have been processed regardless of whether you cancelled the hotel. Since they aren't linked in your MDE, that strongly suggests the order was never fulfilled. They will most likely just give you a refund since the bands you chose are no longer available.
