Magic Bands/DME with room only?

DH and I would love to come down to the world for a short 2 night 3 day trip over the summer to relax at one of the resorts. We are DVC and don't have any points left this year but airfare is super cheap and we thought, hey why not! We have been to Disney so many times that we don't NEED to go to the park if it will be only 3 days. We just want to hang at the pool and DS for dinner at night. We have never done resort only trip and were wondering if we did (and didn't have tickets), can we still use the DME feature? Do we get magic bands to open our doors?

Yes, you can get complimentary magic bands in the color of your choice, and you can get ground transportation on Disney's Magical Express. Have a great trip!

Awesome! We already have our permanent magic bands that we bought so we always decline them when we go, but its good to know that with RO reservation you can still use MBs for resort doors, charging to the room, etc. Thanks for your reply!

Permanent magicbands?

With any reservation you'll get the option to get new MBs. And they can be used interchangeably with any other MB you have on your account.

For this purpose, a room only reservation is no different from a package, nor are park tickets required for the stay at all in order for resort benefits like DME or Magic Bands or room charge to be received. The only thing you need park tickets for is to make Fastpass Plus reservations. And if you're not going to the parks, you won't need those.

Permanent magic bands? There are no magic bands that are more or less permanent than any other. Any magic band that is active on your MDE account is good to use, whether it is one you bought or were given thru a resort stay.. (Although the long distance RFID won't remain active after a couple of years.)

Being able to use DME and getting magic bands are only dependent on staying on site. You don't have to book a package or buy tickets from Disney (or at all) or book directly through Disney.

By permanent I meant the "fun" ones we purchased in Epcot that we use for every trip. I was just saying this bc we wouldn't need the MBs, just to activate the ones we have for room and charging. This is what I wanted to know could happen with RO stay.

Unless you deactivate those MBs via your My Disney Experience account, they will stay activated. And as long as you have a Credit Card linked in your MDE account, you will be able to use any active MBs to charge things.
