Tell me more about Magic Bands at DL-we have had them at WDW but not been there since 2017, and then the Magic Band was ready and waiting at our hotel reception, ready to use. We are thinking about buying them on arrival day (our first park day is the following day) Does World of Disney have a decent selection and once purchased what do we do with them? I am sure i remember seeing that the shop staff would activate the Magic Bands for you but is that still the case? We are 2 50-something tech-phobes who can only just manage a smartphone between us! :rotfl2:We are not staying on site if that makes a difference. And we are coming from the UK so don't have large amounts of data to use at DL, so want to get away from the phone as much as we can!

We have them, they work to get you in the parks instead of your phone but that is about all they do. I think there is some ride connections but not alot. They do not open hotel doors and you can't use them to purchase anything

They really don't do much. I wore mine to the Oogie Boogie Bash and the photographers were scanning it to send my pictures to my account. Other than that, they just change colors when there's a parade or fireworks nearby. They weren't helpful at the hotel at all.

Agree with the others, they don't do a whole lot. We liked our because our son had DAS so scanning into his rides returns was nice and easy. But if we didn't have DAS, we probably wouldn't have bothered with magic bands at Disneyland.

I was just at Disneyland and they have less functionality vs. WDW. I brought mine that I already owned and found it super convenient to scan into the park and LLs but I wouldn't buy one at Disneyland if I didn't have one already. During my trip I barely noticed anyone with them on but YMMV.

I noticed the widest variety of bands at World of Disney and the pin store right next to the monorail/across from the Lego store.

They for sure don't do as much as WDW but I think scanning into rides if you plan to use LLMP is worth buying one. If you wont have LLMP then not worth it.

I do think they are cute. I bought one a while back to wear on our next trip....even though I have no idea if we'll have DAS again or not.

Very cute. It's hard for me not to buy each one I see that I like. So far I only own 1 plus our old school plain ones.

The new MagicBand will scan you into the park, scan into rides, let PhotoPass photographers (like those near characters or park icons) scan the MagicBand so the photo goes on your account, and it lights up with some entertainment.

I have an Orange Bird one and then a Disneyland one (but I honestly can't remember what it looks like because I haven't used it yet and bought it a while back. Ha!)

My son has a Winnie the Pooh one and a MMRR one that's super cute too.

My husband has a Haunted Mansion one and then a Disneyland one as well.

There are TONS that I would love to buy but can't rationalize the cost.

ahh see you have way more than me already so I must showing major constraint. Haha! I can say at WDW they are such a huge help and DL really needs to get on board with having all the same capabilities.

I think the biggest convenience is if one is purchasing Lightning Lane. It is much easier to tap into the LL queue than it is to scan your phone. Not that the phone is all that difficult but it always seems to take people a lot longer on their phone than those with a MB.

Agreed, I think it's better to have your phone already tucked away when you're getting into line. Much easier to just tap MB and go into the que. One less chance to fumble the phone onto that ever so unforgiving pavement. And I fully admit I find it a hoot when the MB lights up on a ride for some reason. Still can't figure out why but don't care, it's fun.
