Not sure where I should post these questions, so if my post needs to be moved, please do.

I have a TIW card we plan to use for dining on our trip next month. Is this information something the will be included on my profile and the discount be "automatic" when I use my magic and or will I need to show the card as in the past? Exactly how do you pay when dining? Do servers have a device to use with magicbands? How do you add tips to meal charges? All this high tech stuff is a little above me. Just having a hard time picturing how everything will work :confused3

Another question -- Do you get KTTW cards in addition to the magicbands if you don't want to wear the magicbands all the time. DD and DSiL have reservations at Calif Grill for "date night dinner" and she says she doesn't think they will go with her dress up clothes. lol

No discounts are automatic, the CM must manually apply them on the POS. To receive any discount you are eligible for, you will need to show proof of discount (AP/DVC Member ID/TiW Card) and a photo ID.

You can pay using your magic band but you will have to show your actual TIW card for the discount. This was what we did on our October trip.

Unfortunately to get your TIW discount you still need to carry the card with you. The same is true for DVC member discounts, AP holder discounts, etc.

The server brings a device to the table that can read your magic band or KTTW card. You enter your PIN on the device. You get the same paper receipt as usual and if you use TIW an automatic 18% tip is added to your bill. You can write in an additional amount on the tip line if you want to tip more than 18% (if not, draw a line through the "TIP" line on the receipt), then total it up and sign it as usual.

Yes you still get a KTTW card.

And no one ever has to *wear* their magicband. It can just go in a purse or a pocket if you like.

Make sure you have the tiw card AND your photo id. It was checked every time we used our tiw card.

Thanks to everyone. I think I understand a little better how it will work.

Was hoping having the magicbands would mean I would not have to carry any of the other cards with me.

Yes, and the servers would like that, too. Hopefully including the discounts and communicating that info to registers will be an upgrade at some point, once all the initial kinks are worked out. It could work one of two ways, either communicate the discount directly and adjust the total automatically, or scan the band, show available discounts on the screen (server or register CM selects the proper Discount) and then scan MB again for payment, in case you don't want to pay with the band.

And Yes, I had to show ID everywhere to use the TIW, the only exception was my home resort where servers recognized me since I've stayed there over 50 times.

Another thing I'd like to see is either a cheap digital watch built into the bands or an inexpensive watch in a Magic Band bauble that they sell at the resorts. That way I wouldn't need to wear the band and a watch.

I don't think it will ever be automatic. They are hoping you forget to mention the discount. Maybe I am a little cynical :)

You get both Magic Bands (which you can have sent to you before arrival on the My Disney Experience site) and the Key to the World Cards you got before. Your Masgic Bands can have: room keys, park tickets, charging privleges if desired, and Fastpass+ (set up on My Disney Experience before you arrive). You cannot put TIW card on them. We also found out when using them that they don't work for entry at stairway doors at BWV and that may be true at other resorts also and thus you need the KTTW card for that. At restaurants if doing room charges, it is easier to just use the KTTW card for charging .

Yes you still get a KTTW card.

Maybe. They have started to phase out KTTW. Starting last wek, POP is the first to not get them.

To add to when Debbie posted-

Scuttlebutt is after thanksgiving other resorts will switch to MB only also.

The Disney cast member notification said if people didn't want MB they could ask for a KTTW card instead.

It wasn't clear if you could ask for the KTTW to use "sometimes" but being disney i dont know why they wouldn't offer that if you asked.

We had no problem opening locked stairway doors at BWV with our Magic Bands during our October trip. We had a Standard View room across from the bus stop. We used the MBs to open the door near the canal fountain several times during our stay. Maybe there was a glitch while you were there or maybe there was a problem with other doors at BWV that we didn't use.

Glad to know someone else had experience otherwise. There were two different doors that we tried and they did not work. We had some other issues with the bands. When we first arrived, they couldn't get them to work on the room doors. That took almost two hours to resolve and several trips to the room to make attempts. Moreover, they could never get ours to accept charge privileges. The computer for that purpose kept rejecting them because we were shown as having already checked out from some prior phantom reservation. Also interesting were the almost constantly long lines at guest services at the parks occupied mostly by guests having problems with their magic bands.

It will be great when they finally get all these glitches fixed so that everyone has a good experience. Knowing that they were in testing mode, I was expecting to have problems and was surprised when everything worked so well during our stay. We rented a car and in the past, DH always had a problem reaching the KTTW card reader at the gate at the guard shack. With the MBs, he was able to reach the reader for the first time. He had to remove the band from his wrist but could hold it by the end of the strap and dangle it in front of the reader and it worked! Sure beats unbuckling the seat belt in order to lean out of the window to push the KTTW card into the reader.

I hope you have a better experience next time because when they work, they are a pleasure to use!

YES. I would love that, too.

:) Same thing with the Chase Disney Visa (CC or debit) discount. You have to mention it, even though you are handing them a Disney visa card that they could see (assuming you aren't doing it with KTTW or MB but I don't even know if it would work that way). If you don't, you get to convince them to void the sale and do it over.
