Magic Bands and split stay reservation question

I rented points for my Dec vacation, but had enough points in my own account to book the first night myself. I'm seeing that the magic bands are available on both reservations, so I wondered if anyone can tell me what I need to do...will I need to customize 2 different bands?

Disney is currently sending magic bands out for each reservation even though you can re-use bands for about 2 years which is their battery life. I would just go ahead and order both sets, you will probably only use 1 for the entire stay.

Yep, customize both to your liking. Currently, every reservation is receiving MBs. Nice to have color options. Bring both...although they aren't tied to an individual reservation, just your MDE account, so one band will work for your entire trip.

How so you see you are entitled to magic bands? When/where can we order them? Our reservations aren't until May but I wanted to order special colors for the kids

You order them on the My Disney Experience website. As of now, you do it 60 days before your trip.

I ordered the magic band, but I'm concerned that it won't arrive until after I've left home. If I don't receive it in time, can I get one at check-in?

(I've already set up fast pass + times.)

The Front Desk gives out gray ones. The pre-orders are shipped FedEx so they get home pretty fast.

If you customize MagicBands more than 30 days from check-in, they will be shipped UPS Next Day Air once you are 30 days from check-in. If you book less than 30 days out, you will have a very short window to customize the bands and still have them shipped to you. If you book between 5 and 10 days from arrival, you can customize the bands and they will be shipped to the resort. If you book less than 5 days from arrival, you get uncustomized grey ones at check-in.

We had a count down on the MDE website for the customization cut off, those bands came FedEx. Today we just did custom bands for our next vacation and there was another count down message.

Maybe they will ship UPS.

If they send it immediately after the countdown ends, I'll have 12 days to receive it before I leave. (I'm leaving 18 days before my first DVC reservation.)

But I have 5 DVC reservations over Dec-Jan-Feb. I don't really want them to send a magic band for each reservation as I won't be home to receive them. Am I correct that if I don't customize a magic band for the last 4 reservations, they won't send them, and I can use the one for the first reservation for all 5 stays?

They will be processed and shipped as soon as the cut off date has past. You should have them 2 to 3 days after that date.

They may either send grey ones automatically, or have grey ones waiting at the resort. You don't need them as any MagicBand assigned to you will work for all stays.
