When travelling I have a cross body bag with a rfid secure pocket for my credit cards and passport (a bit of over kill as my passport is too old to have a chip :lmao:).

It got me thinking about charging things to my room at WDW. My magic band will be on show at all times so how likely is it that I accidentally get charged for someone else's purchases?

Libby, when you get your MagicBand you have to set a 4-digit PIN. You have to enter the PIN whenever you make a purchase using your MagicBand.

The other thing is the readers have a really short range - you have to almost physically touch them to get them to read

I have set up my PIN already on my MDE account. I think it lets you do that as soon as you register a card.

I wouldn't worry about it. If there were issues there would have been posts on the DIS about it. I haven't seen one.

you have to set up a PIN and enter it for any transaction (even a snack on the dining plan)

but you'll also notice each time that you have to really put "mickey to mickey" to establish the RFID connection. You have to put your magic band on the reader, but you also have to put it exactly as it's supposed to be put, or it won't work

don't worry about being charged from a distance, the system can't even charge you 2 inches away from the reader :)

Thanks for your replies. That sounds a lot more reassuring - just have to remember my PIN while I am there!

Sorry just to clear up any confusion, but you set up your PIN in your resort hotel is that correct.

right you will be able to enter a pin on a keypad upon check in

you can also set it up at home during online check in

As above, you can set it in your MDE account during online check in, but once your OLCI date opens, you can actually set it when you go into your profile without doing OLCI. I have decided not to bother checking in online for the resort but have added a pin code for both my reservations :thumbsup2

Excellent. I will do my PIN when I check in then. I'm not doing the online check in, I want to do it at the resort.

I haven't even made a room request either so the cast members at POR are free to put me anywhere. I'm excited to find out.
