We are going back in Nov. and I know that the magic bands will no longer be free starting in Jan. Will they still be using them going forward or are they changing them entirely? Is it worth buying a themed one now to use for our March trip or will it be a waste since changes are coming? I wonder if prices will go way up on the themed ones? TIA for any insight.

1. Yes.
2. That’s a different question. (But, see #4 below.)
3. If you WANT them, buy them.
4. What you buy will still function on future trips.
5. Define “way up.” ( Prices are sure to increase. By how much is unknown.)

Thanks.....I am going to buy one.

If you have any recent ones they will work for two years but you can buy them. We have recent ones we’ll hold on to for a while but if needed I’ll buy them. I love them. So convenient

If you have any recent ones they will work for two years ...

This is insufficiently correct.

As long as Disney keeps the current technology in place (on which they spent $2 Billion), any Magic Band on your account, regardless of age, will work virtually forever for everything that matters (Park entry, room entry, ADRs, FP, payments, etc.). The only thing that will cease to work after 3 years, on average, is getting some ride photos automatically, and things such as seeing your name on the board at IASW.

Related question...I just booked a package for November yesterday and I didn't see anything about Magic Bands on there. When we went a couple years ago I remember choosing a color and they mailed them to us a couple weeks before we went. Will we get them at the hotel when we check in instead?

You can order them in your My Disney Experience. If you log in you will see where to click and choose your colors for your party.

Magic bands are not going anywhere. WDW has spent a lot money setting up the system.
If you like the bands then it won't be a waste however you don't have to have one to experience the park. Prices are always rising but I don't think that they'll double in price or anything like that. Disney still wants us to buy them, they just don't want to give us free ones.

In MDE, go to the My Magic Bands and Cards page. If you don't choose colors, you'll all get the grey bands.

Amazing... Disney wants to charge you for something that they use to charge you. Take some time... the wording might be confusing, but you'll get it!
