Hello wise and helpful DIS'ers! We are heading to Orlando to do a Universal Studios/Disney/beach combo trip in July. We will be staying at a Disney resort for our Disney days, so will have Magic Bands, but are going to Universal first.

My question is, when we are at Universal, what do you guys recommend I do with the Magic Bands? Put them in the hotel safe? Wear them? Something else? I haven't been to Disney since Magic Bands so don't know how secure or comfortable they would be to wear them for two days at Universal before we need them, but might worry about them back at the room. We'll have a car but that seems like the least secure option!

thank you!

Why would you worry about them in the room? There's no personal information stored on the band. I personally would leave them behind; there's no sense in wearing them to a place where they can't be used.

Why worry about them? They have no personal information stored on them. Leave them in your luggage in the hotel room. I doubt some hotel maid is going to steal your magic bands.

Edit: oops posted at same time. ^. Didn't mean to repeat advice.

The MagicBand are your door keys, so don't leave all of them in the room or you won't get back in without stopping at the front desk to get a replacement.

He's talking about where to leave them while at Universal, not Disney.

I guess I was worried about them getting stolen from the room, or hacked (we are really paranoid about computer info, etc). But yes I think the hotel safe is the best place. I imagine they are like a ticket; if they get lost or stolen you could contact Guest Services and have them deactivated and get new ones? Of course, we wouldn't know until 12 hours later since we'll be at US all day. I'm sure they will be fine in the safe. Thank you! My kids are going to be so tickled with the room key feature of them once they are at Disney. Can we turn that feature on for any MB? (kids are 10,14,16, but the younger ones still get a thrill out of unlocking hotel doors with the card, LOL)

Yup.

Lately I've had at least two with me since I tend to do split stays and I always leave one in my room, either in my luggage or in a drawer. This is on Disney property but I don't see why you would need to worry about it at any other hotel.

I can see why people would continue to wear them if they are staying at Disney, but taking a day trip to Universal. But yeah, if you arent at Disney yet I would think you could store them in your luggage in the room or in the safe if you wanted.

There is really no need to put them in a safe. As others have said, they contain no personal information. There is simply an identifier that links to the WDW database. No one can use your tickets because you need to scan your finger. No one can use your credit card because they would need your PIN. I would just throw them in one of your bags and not worry about them. That's what we do. :)

In the Disney hotels I put them in the safe. They can't use them for charging because of the pin or for tickets because of the finger scan, but they are your ROOM key for the room you are leaving them in. If someone uses them to go back in and steal something it will show up that YOUR key was used to enter the room. They would just have to pick it up, leave the room for a little bit, come back in with your band and then leave it in the room after they are done. Safe is the safest place for them.

I'm confused. How would someone get into the room to get the band in the first place?

Right but he still had to get back in his room after a day at universal, no
Perhaps the OP will clarify, but they said they were going to Universal before going to Disney. As in staying elsewhere before starting the Disney segment of their trip. If this is the case, then there is no need to wear them. It would look foolish. They can be safely kept either in their luggage or room safe until they are at WDW.

I was thinking housekeeping people. They use their pass to get into the room to clean, take band, open up room later with band and then leave band behind. I'm not saying that housekeeping is dishonest, but better to be safe than sorry. Don't leave the temptation out and available.
