Magic Band Storage

Hi, I'm the OP and yes, we are going to Universal for a couple days then "moving" to Disney. Sounds like keeping them in the room safe at Universal is the way to go, and there is no fear of a crazy Orlando black market for Magic Bands stolen out of hotel rooms :) Oh and if we wear them at Universal we will look dumb :)

Im putting my in the freezer.;)

If your worried about them stick them in the safe at universal.

I would think the bands would be useless till you check in at your Disney resort after your stay at universal.

I don't remember having to use my pin or being asked for it all of the time. If it isn't always being used (proper rules or not), then I would worry a little about charging privileges. When I did online checkin, I went ahead and put in a card for charging. I don't exactly know when that gets activated. Also, if the MBs are linked to new tickets that haven't been used yet, then can't someone else use their finger to enter the park the first time? I doubt the tickets would require checking in to a WDW hotel, unless it's a package. Anyway, there's still probably a remote chance of getting stolen.

You only need the pin on purchases over $50 (I work merchandise and last time I was there in November that's how it was). So yes people can use the band for small item purchases. And I believe that the charging gets activated on day of check-in but not 100% sure on that.

Your bands can't charge until your checked in at Disney. There's no fear over losing your bands since there's nothing on them. Can't charge or open any doors until at Disney. Leave them in a bag or your car. No need for a safe at all

The problem arises with the bypass the desk checkin. If you technically never checkin, when does your band becomes activated? It's probably only a small window of opportunity though.

What would you do with a LiveStrong band? Same thing until you check in.

If by passing check-in by doing it online. I would imagine that any resort magic band functions won't be available until you get the text that the room is ready. From then the functions should be available

There has been a lot of debate and questions about this. I don't know the answer. But for these purposes, it's probably not really an issue. The MBs are probably pretty safe.

I don't think that's still true.

When we were there last week we had to enter our pin for every purchase - even my obligatory Mickey bar. Perhaps they have changed their policy since you were there.

We ran into an issue on our check in day. Their computers were down. So not only could we not get our room assignment, we couldn't activate our charging privileges when we arrived. We had to pay with cash or CC until we got back from the parks that night.

Thanks everyone! I am learning about Magic Bands. We will be doing online check in, but still I think we all agree the bands will be fine. Hope online check in works for us.
