Once you have personalized magic bands how long do you keep them? We have a jan trip then July trip, I assume we will use same bands?

You can use the same, though you may get another set anyway.

Everytime you stay at a Disney resort you are issued new bands. I'm not sure when/if this will change.

To be specific, the bands are yours to keep forever.

As far as future possible use, the internal batteries are not replaceable, but are designed to last for up to three years before being exhausted and the band
rendered unusable for the full compliment of MagicBand features at WDW parks.

I talked to an Exec quite by accident who told me the batteries last 3 yrs.
Btw, he and some others asked my opinion about the gibits that you can buy for them. Wanted to know if I was interested or what kind of bling I would like. The entire conversation started because he noticed my sterling silver Mickey bracelet and asked if it was theirs. And I said "yes, it is".

I can tell you the accessory I'd buy in an instant for the magic band is a time piece! On my recent trip I often frustrated myself by looking at my wrist to check the time - only to realize I was wearing the band and not my watch. I'd have to pull out my phone and waste some battery (at a premium in the parks) to check the time. And truthfully, on vacation I'd rather never pay attention to the time time but with ADRs and FP+s it's a necessity. I'm not really interested in decorating my magic band at all, but I'd probably pay ten bucks for a little digital time piece to slip on one while I'm having to keep an eye on the time at the parks!!

(And yes, I will be mentioning this when I round up my thoughts to give Disney my opinions on the whole My Magic situation.)

:thumbsup2 great idea I too found myself doing this all the time ( pun intended ;) ) on my stay in Sept Unless of course they come out with some kind of Pluto bling then I must have that too ( poor neglected dog ) a Pluto watch even better for me

I am checking in tomorrow and while my MB is active the website also says I will have one waiting at the resort...don't need it but when other duplicates get mailed to people what a waste I hope they fix that

We are at Disney now and when we went to activate our annual pass renewal we were told they were loaded onto our MBs, which would be good for a year. Of course we asked for AP cards for backup. At the time I asked if we stay on property again within the next year would our new room info be loaded onto the old bands and were told yes. This was at Guest relations at Magic Kingdom.

Just to keep things clear:

No AP's or tickets are "loaded onto" any MagicBands.
All ticket info becomes a part of a guests' central computer file.
The MB then accesses that central computer info.

And, the reason that your MB AP is "good for a year" has nothing to do
with MB. It's because the AP is good for a year.
The MB is "good" for up to 3 years.

Not trying to argue.
But, there is so much info flying around that it's hard to keep straight.

I think his point was to provide evidence that MBs will be good for all visits for at least one year based on his conversation while upgrading to an AP.

If his MB will be good for all visits/park entries for the life of his AP, then it must last at least one year.

I was just on the phone with Disney, and they said that you would get new MagicBands every time by default, but you can deactivate the new ones and link your old MagicBand if you want. I asked because we have 3 different reservations for our upcoming trip and wanted to know if we would be using the same bands the entire trip.

For locals and others who may spend a LOT of time in the parks, the batteries will wear out somewhat sooner. But Even under very heavy use, such as 100-150 days a year, the bands are projected to last about a year and a half.

But yes, Robo's clarification can be important when one may have a problem or a question and is trying to figure out the cause - none of the detailed data resides on the band itself - hence all bands registered to one guest will be able to access the same data. No worry about which band to bring if you have more than one. (I have three, my wife has four.)

So this trip in jan I have my red one. In July I choose a green one. On my July trip I can wear either one whichever day. Right?

We have APs that will activate in jan. And I do understand it's all an online account that MB just accesses. Ah-mazing in my opinion.

The bands will be good as long as the battery doesn't run out and you have them activated on your DMX account.

Correct. If the system works the way it is supposed to.

I said the same thing while we were there because I was constantly checking it like I would have a watch. We didn't buy any bling for ours but I would have bought a time piece slide on for it in a heart beat.

How do you know that you are deactivating the new ones.....May sound like a dumb question, but for some reason I could not place my order for my new bands so I deactivated the ones that we're showing thinking they were the bands from our last trip as they were the same colors we used....did I do the wrong thing....I have an email sent to disney just waiting on a response
Any help you can provide would be great

Each band has a serial number on it as well.

But you don't have to deactivate any of the older ones, up until a point. Each guest can have up to 8 active MBs associated with them. They work interchangably. You can switch back and forth easily. We did this in October with no issues, because for some reason, my husband and I were each given two MBs.

This was exactly what I said on our recent trip. Since I was wearing the MB, I didn't wear my watch and kept looking by instinct at it for the time. Ideally, it would be cool if a digital watch was built in, along with enough of a screen that would give you info on your ADRs and FP+s for the day, or the next few hours.

We got ours in the mail yesterday! Already planning what color I want for July!! I actually like the grey but then I would feel like people are judging me for not customizing. That's completely crazy talk but someone understands.

Do you still do the finger scan with the bands at entry?
