Magic Band question

My son and I went last year for our first on-site stay (POP) and we had our Magic Bands. We are planning a return trip this June and might have two extra guests with us. Will he and I get new Magic Bands or will they just reactivate our ones from last year?

As of now, any on property booking will entitle each guest to a new Magic Band as part of your reservation. The old bands are still active on your MDE account, and will indeed work interchangeably (some people color coordinate to their outfits) but at some point, the long range functionality of the bands for things such as automatic Photopass tagging will stop working as that requires an internal battery. They will still function fine for any "tap needs" IE to pay, enter room, use FP+, etc.

You get new ones and you customize them in MDE just as before. You can bring your old ones to use, too. They will also work. Some like to wear their old colors -- guess it depends on your outfit that day.

If staying on site, everyone will receive a customized magic band

If staying offsite then you'll have to buy any extra magic bands within the parks

No matter what though you're older magic bands will work just fine. It is true that after awhile the batteries will start to die, but that's a few years down the road
