Hi -

Going to WDW next week! I got a Magic Band for DS, but it won't link to our account. I have an old MB that I was going to use, but Disney sent us both grey Magic Bands that I don't remember ordering? When we checked in, I was just going to go to the front desk to ask their help to get them to activate it. Is that a good plan? Otherwise, I have an Apple watch, so also having a Magic Band, is kind of a bit too much for me. Is there something I could use to attach the MB to my watch? Do we trust the new pass thingy thru the app to take the place of the MB??! Otherwise, I'd kind of like to bling up the grey MB, BUT I have 0 craft skills, abilities or patience!
Any suggestions to do any of the above cheaply and in less than a week?!
TIA!!

Where did you get your son's Magic Band? From Disney as part of your resort reservation or from Shop Disney?

If it was a special band you ordered as part of your resort stay, it's already linked to him. The save goes for the gray bands you were sent - already linked, and there's nothing for you to do.

You can always go to the front desk and they can make sure everything is set up properly.

Nothing is ever stored ON the MagicBands. They are merely keys that access your MDE account and access the data stored there (room #, tickets, FP, ADR, etc.).

OP, you might already know all of this, but I am adding it in case it is helpful to anyone else who clicks on this thread.

Go to Disneyworld.com
Hover your mouse over My Disney Experience
Click on My MagicBands and Cards
Log in
Scroll down and you will see a list of everyone in your MDE account
Click on the first person
You will see each MagicBand which has been assigned to that person
It will see either Active or Inactive for each Magicband
If it says Active and you don't want to use it, you can click on Deactivate
If it says Inactive and you want to use it, you can click on Activate

If you received MagicBands from Disney for your upcoming trip, they should be listed there.
Some people have reported recently that they received grey MagicBands for upcoming trips even though they did not order MagicBands.

If you purchased a MagicBand and want to add it to your account, keep scrolling past the names of each person in your MDE account, and you will see a section for Link a MagicBand.
Click on LINK
Then click on SELECT under the word MagicBand
Follow the instructions from there.

If you have trouble linking a MagicBand, I assume that if you take it to the front desk of your resort, they will be able to help you, but I have not tried this myself.

You could try calling Disney IT from home before your trip, but wait times in general have been long during the pandemic, so I don't know how fast you would get through. I have this phone number for Disney IT, but I have not tried it lately: 407-939-4357.

To add your MagicBand to an Apple watch: if you google it, you might find something which will let you remove the "puck" from the MagicBand and insert it into something that you attach to the watch. But your trip is coming up soon, so I don't know if you have time for that.

Disney used to sell something called MagicKeepers. You would remove the "puck" from the MagicBand, and insert it into something shaped like Mickey or Minnie, which you could attach to a lanyard. They also had one which had a carabiner clip. I don't know if they still sell these.

Another option is to ask for a key card at your resort, and use that instead of a MagicBand.

If you want to dress up the grey MagicBands, you can buy MagicBand "bandits" which you stick into the holes of the MagicBands. The stores at Disney resorts and parks used to have them on the wall next to the MagicBands. I assume they still do, but I have not been there since the pandemic started.

I got his Magic Band from Shop Disney. I'll just go to the front desk when we check in. Thanks!
