I don't think the DME info is correct.
Many times multiple guests in a party arrive on different days and use DME to get to their resort.
If the guest arriving later is scheduled to be in the room, AFAIK, that guest can board DME.
(It's not like they have to schedule a special bus to make the transport.)

The problem with DME in the OP's case is that one person in the party is arriving on the same day but isn't on the reservation so he can't use DME.

The OP has a package and can't / doesn't want to add the boyfriend to the package but just to the room and that has to be done after check in!

OP - If there is a more experienced male traveling have them switch places with the boyfriend for dme / boyfriend ride Magical express with the rest of the party and the experienced male rides Mears?

Or you could just hire a towncar for the family on the inbound at about 60 total plus tip and not worry about this!

Since the trip date is June 1 - 5 they can't make any changes to their package without paying a penalty.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a change fee when the change makes the package more expensive.

I called today and was able to get him added to the Magical Express! We are going to link him to our room when we check into the resort. Thank you for all the help.
