Magic Band - DVC

Here's another benefit of purchasing a DVC MB. I had a DVC slider on my regular MB. When I would go shopping or dining, the check out cast member/waiter would notice it and remind me of my discounts which I always seem to forget! The purple stand out color indicating DVC member might be helpful to remind members/cast members of those discounts.

I just checked, and the purple color is available to everyone now. There would still be some notation of DVC 25th on the DVC band, but anyone can get a purple band.

Yes you can link them but you can also get new ones everytime you go

I guess I just don't understand why DVC members would purchase a band they can get for free? Collectors items maybe?

Lots of reasons, I'm sure. These will be "limited edition" which means at some scan points there will be a unique color or sound. Not sure if that's worth $33 but to each his/her own.

I have to say - With all the ways they get our money these days, at least this one is completely optional in the context of visiting WDW.

What do you mean by unique color or sounds at scan points? Is this something new with magic bands? Where are these locations?

The special colors/sounds only happen with Limited Edition MagicBands that Disney sells (currently for $32.99). Limited Edition MagicBands have a set number produced with the upcoming DVC MagicBands limited to 2,500 for each of the 4 colors that will be released.

Normal colors are Green (valid) or Blue (not valid). The normal colors apply at all touch points.

Below is a youtube video with the special colors/sounds for the 2015 MNSSHP Limited Edition MagicBand.

The special colors/sounds vary for each LE MagicBand. As for touch points, it's either at the park entrance or the FP+ entrance.

Can you re-use the magic band by having it synced or reprogrammed when you check in? I probably should know this but I don't. I'm trying to determine whether or not to purchase the DVC magic band that will be made available on April 11.

Actually no need to do anything. It will just work as long as you did not deactiviate it in MDE.

I just don't visit enough for me to want to get a limited edition band. If the batteries were replaceable and I got several years use out of It, I would think about them.

The main uses of the MagicBand (park entry, room entry, FP+ entry, room charging, etc.) all use passive RFID which draws any necessary power from the touch points. All of these functions will continue to operate long after the battery has died.

The battery powered transmitter has limited uses: automatic photo linking, interactive queue elements (once enabled) and possibly crowd tracking.

Yes I am well aware of all of that. With purchasing AP's and having photos and videos included not having use of the long range RFID would stink when it does not work. Also not too mention the profit margin on these things is ridiculous. I don't mind $20 but $33 for a band is a must pass for me.

Maybe.

I've had issues even with the band issued for the stay and getting into the rooms. The front desk then needs to do something to activate it for the room. As far as working for park entry etc that's always been fine. And sometimes old or new will work for the room. There seems to be something in the process that allows it to get messed up for that function.

Glitches happen.

Between all family members, we now have well into the triple digits of MBs. I'm glad they started the decline option. I started putting initials and dates on the inside, just to keep track of how old it was.

The bands have gotten more flexible. I used to place it under the legs of the sofa, for a week, to get a good curl to it. The new ones are much more flexible and comfortable.

I'm excited that they will be used in DL and DCL in the future!

MagicBands always remain linked to a single My Disney Experience user account. You cannot transfer them from one individual to another, but the owner of the band can use it over the course of many different stays.

Of course, there are no guarantees as to how long a band will remain functional. The bands use a passive RFID chip for most "touch" functions like FastPass redemption and opening hotel room doors. That chip is unpowered and should last indefinitely as long as the band does not "break."

MagicBands also have a battery-powered active chip for long range functions like capturing PhotoPass images while the wearer is on an attraction vehicle. The battery for the active chip will only last around 2 years, then those remote functions will no longer work for the wearer.
There have been several posts from some tech savvy people that even if the battery wears out you can still use the bands. The RFID chip allows for park entry, CC charging, ticket data. All the battery does is track your wear abouts in the parks and on Disney property. Sort of a data mining vehicle. The RFID chips last a very very long time. I wouldn't care if my battery wears out. Anyway to speed that process up? :)

I have had no issues since I deactivated all but one magicband for each person online. Then that one works even for the room without going to the front desk.

Tried it. Doesn't matter. I've seen a trend though as the issues have been at BWV and AKV. I haven't had to get it fixed anywhere else.

I have never gotten a room ready text, so I haven't had the opportunity to see how things work without visiting the front desk. Also, I like going to the front desk. Except at AKL. I really disike those CMs; they seem to be rude or wrong every time I interact with them. Sigh.

Anyway, I have, I think it's...13 active MBs on my account right now, and 12 of them work. I think there actually must be something wrong with it b/c what it won't do is open a door, and it should open the door even though the long range battery is likely dead. It's the only one of them that wasn't pre-ordered; it was handed over early in the MD days because I couldn't, at that moment while checking in, find my MB.

Anyway, apart from that one band, everything is fine. Mine don't glitch. Others do. Having just one band active doesn't always make a difference. If it was a feature that there needed to be under x active bands, then ALL accounts with more than x bands would have problems.

Wow, for all the talk about how expensive they are, they're already sold out on the app! I wonder how many they made available, if they'll restock there, & if they held some back for the parks and/or disney store.com.

Someone on one of the DVC Facebook pages said 10,000. No idea if that's accurate or not.
