Can you re-use the magic band by having it synced or reprogrammed when you check in? I probably should know this but I don't. I'm trying to determine whether or not to purchase the DVC magic band that will be made available on April 11.

MagicBands always remain linked to a single My Disney Experience user account. You cannot transfer them from one individual to another, but the owner of the band can use it over the course of many different stays.

Of course, there are no guarantees as to how long a band will remain functional. The bands use a passive RFID chip for most "touch" functions like FastPass redemption and opening hotel room doors. That chip is unpowered and should last indefinitely as long as the band does not "break."

MagicBands also have a battery-powered active chip for long range functions like capturing PhotoPass images while the wearer is on an attraction vehicle. The battery for the active chip will only last around 2 years, then those remote functions will no longer work for the wearer.

It's possible that the Limited Edition DVC MagicBands may have special sounds and/or colors at the touch points. All other Limited Edition MagicBands that Disney has sold have unique sounds and/or colors.

You can have as many bands as you want linked to your account (but if you have a lot, they suggest you deactivate some). You can add a new band whenever you want.

Every member of my family has five MagicBands, from the year that we had AP's and I didn't know how to stop them. :) It's easy to go into the account and de-activate all but the one you want. Then I've had no trouble using that one everywhere.

Back in Nov, Disney added a Decline option that you can select during the customization process. This is on a band by band basis, so you have to get to the point in the process where you can enter names & select colors before you will see the option.

As a side note, I was excited to see this when it was announced because as silly as it is, purple is my favorite color so I was going to buy one. I checked yesterday when they became available, and was surprised by the cost, $32.99. All other MB for sale are generally $24-$28. Glad that purple became available for free so as much as I would like one, I think the price is too high.

Limited Edition MagicBands are $32.99
Limited Release MagicBands are $27.99
Graphic Open Edition MagicBands are $22.99
Solid Color Retail MagicBands are $12.99

The DVC MagicBands are Limited Edition at 2,500 per color.

Yes, our sixth and final AP trip was in November, so for that trip, we declined the bands.

They became available yesterday? Where?

If you log on to the DVC member site and click on the 25th anniversary specials there is a link to the DVC MB.

But it is not yet available for purchase. Clearly states in the link that it's available on the Shop Parks app on 4/11...in WDW on 4/15...and on the Member Marketplace on 4/18.

I double checked. It wasn't available for purchase on the app or the marketplace yet...just to be certain.

They aren't available until April 11th.

You can see the price but you can't buy them yet.

Phew! Okay, thanks. Has anybody found a picture of any of the other colors (besides purple)?

How much are the DVC MBs going for? I have so many MBs but may actually purchase this but I guess it will be good only a couple of years until he battery runs out?

$32.99 plus tax

I like the free ones. :goodvibes

See Tim's info in post #2 about what will and won't work in the MB's for an extended time.

If purple is your main interest, I believe they finally added purple to the free mbs you get with an onsite stay.

Sorry for straying from the actual discussion, but this is something I love. I have the limited edition MB from 2014's MVMCP and love re-using it, the vast majority of the time tagging on for a FastPass I will have someone comment on the red and white stripes that appear instead of the green.

I guess I just don't understand why DVC members would purchase a band they can get for free? Collectors items maybe?

You answered your own question. The bands with characters printed on them, plus commemorative limited run ones for events like the Halloween and Christmas parties aren't available as the free option. Like I said in my above post I have the one from the 2014 Christmas party, it's a nice keepsake as a reminder of the night, plus there's the perk of it being something that can be reused. OP refers to the 25th anniversary DVC magic band, which is completely understandable to want in my opinion as it's a memento that won't be available down the track. Also remember the free options are just several plain colors, which literally every resort guest will have. Plenty of reasons to forego the free band and purchase one.
