Magic Band check

Not sure where to post this question, so Ill start with here

I have a reservation at the Contemporary in August. On our arrival day, my kids (17 & 19) have a breakfast reserved at Ohana at 7:45am. Obviously, we wont be fully checked in (though will have online checkin done) at this time. I am just going to drop them off, then go visit a friend until early afternoon when I can check in at our hotel. They are going to MK right after breakfast. Is there any way for them to check if their magic bands are working/loaded with tix before breakfast? Id like them to be able to charge things to our rooms (though will make sure they have $$$ in case something goes wrong) and not have any issues getting into the MK.

Do they both have a cellphone? If the magic bands aren’t working they could use the mobile app. But for things like charging and getting into the park the magic bands should work no matter how old they are.

Im not concerned about their ages. Theyve been using bands for years and gone to dining/parks alone before. I was just curious to know if their bands will work at 7:45am. Can we set up the pin # online? Our bands came about a month ago, but I just changed our resort reservation this morning. Not sure how Disney keeps track of this stuff on the bands.

If you have checked in online and linked a credit card for charging during check in (you also set PIN numbers then), the bands should work for charging. Tickets should work just fine. It should be totally fine. If you are worried, you could have one of them use their magic band to pay for breakfast, and if it works, you’ll know the bands are good to go.

Got ya! I’ll agree with the previous poster that if you have checked in online you should be able to check on there if you have set pins and have a card on file. I know you said you were dropping the kids and not staying for breakfast so the suggestion to have them pay to make sure doesn’t really pan out. I think your idea to give cash as a backup is a good one too. I did once have an issue at check in with my magic band and charging.... it ended up being because they had upgraded us but in doing so they rebooked the room as a cash and was showing a balance due. It was a Disney mistake which they corrected but you do never know! I will point out because your profile pic is I assume your kid hugging stitch at ohana, a favorite for my kiddo also but do they know there are still no characters at breakfast? Last I knew stitch sadly hasn’t returned to breakfast yet and that would definitely be a let for mine if they didn’t know.

I will point out because your profile pic is I assume your kid hugging stitch at ohana, a favorite for my kiddo also but do they know there are still no characters at breakfast? Last I knew stitch sadly hasn’t returned to breakfast yet and that would definitely be a let for mine if they didn’t know.

Yes, my profile is my DD many moon ago at Ohana! She is 17 now She may be disappointed, but its not a deal breaker if characters are not there. The main reason for this breakfast was so they could easily get to the MK after breakfast. I booked it a while ago, before realizing the monorail is down! But there is still the ferry, or quick walk to TTC. They are very familiar with the Poly and know their way around to get where they need to be. That eases my mind in dropping them off by themselves.

Yes, this is what we have always done, but we have never arrived this early before. We will already be in FL, instead of flying in that day. The intent of this trip is for college visits and had planned to leave on a Fri, but the airline cancelled our return flight home a few weeks after booking it and there was no other non stop available that day, so we extended one more night and will head home Sat instead. So...... I decided to book one night in Disney Lucky us Boo Bash was announced a month or so later and one falls on the very night we will be there We will all go to Boo Bash, but just the kids will be going to the MK during the day. I just want to hang by the pool and shop at Disney Springs! Maybe the kids can check their bands at the Poly guest services before heading upstairs??? Kind of a pain to go to CR first, then drive over to Poly. Monorail to Poly wont be running. Hopefully when I do online check in, I will see where I can set up the pin. We've always typed it into a key pad at the front desk. I never noticed it online, but then again, havent been since August of 2019.

The easiest thing would be to go to the front desk at the Poly and have them check that the bands will work for charging before they go to breakfast, they can set a pin then if you can't do it online before.

FYI: there is nothing “on” the bands, so nothing is kept track of on them. It is all in your MDE account & the bands just link to that. Do they have their own MDE accounts or are they on yours? There is a page in MDE for Magicbands & Cards. You can see what bands you have & if they are active or not. The bands are linked to the person, not the hotel reservation. They’ll work no matter how many times you change your reservation.

Also in MDE, under the My Profile section, you can set or reset your PIN & check your credit card info.

Great info! On MDE, they are on my account...same account we have been using for 15+ years!!
