Magic Band+ can now be used for embarkation/disembarkation at all ports

Interesting.....I bought a MB onboard the Wish this past June but never used it....I just liked the design. Maybe next cruise I'll give it a try. I just don't mind using the KTTW card and even at WDW I find the MB more of a pain to use than my KTTW card.

Disney put out today on their FB page that the bands can now be used for everything on board and for boarding as well as leaving the ship. So if you don't want to use the KTTW card on board at all, you do not have to.
How does that work when you go through security at a port, though? They usually want to see a ship card and a passport.

I'm not talking about the security check onboard the ship, but the one for the country you're visiting that happens before you get back to the ship.

I just used my Magicband+ on the 5 night Spain cruise on The Dream.

I bought it in Disneyland California so I had it before the cruise. When I checked in at the port, I was asked did I have a Magicband, and when I said yes, she activated it for me. Then when I got on the ship it was scanned. I used it the whole time on the ship.

When I got off in the ports, we were told to have our KTTW cards. I used my Magicband to scan off and on the ship, but I needed to show my KTTW card to the shoreside port security when I was getting back on the ship.

I don't have a magic band but when we were coming back to the port in Bilbao, the people in front of us did and the security people at Bilbao port had the tablet things that the Disney Cruise Line crew have when you scan on board.
They were able to use their magic bands with no issue and it showed their pictures like when you scan in on board. They were obviously lent from the ship for the security in port. They had the same at La Coruna after but I only saw people with KTTW cards there.

In Nassau, their tablet (port screening officers) allow to scan a MagicBand, so I suspect Disney made the technology available where needed

We didn’t personally use MagicBand+/DisneyBand+ on our Eastern cruise in August, but passengers with them were allowed to use them in place of a KTTW card at all of the ports. They didn’t have to have to carry their KTTW card in port at all. Just before leaving St. Thomas, we actually watched an officer from the Fantasy collecting some DCL tablets from the port security people which the security people had been using to scan either KTTW cards or MagicBand+/DisneyBand+ to pull up the photos of the returning passengers.

Thanks for the info! I noticed people disembarking at CC using their bands last month and I remember thinking, I didn't think you could do that??? I guess you can! :)

I usually like to match my outfits with the bands. Will they only activate one per person? TY!

No. You can have as many bands as you want. We went to Disney World last time with about three bands per person. They just have to be assigned to you.

From the cruise website:

“If you have a MagicBand+ for Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort, you can use your band as a DisneyBand+ on your Disney cruise. A MyDisney Account can have multiple DisneyBand+ bands linked to it. Once onboard your cruise, only one DisneyBand+ and one Key to the World card per Guest can be linked to a stateroom.”

I refuse to purchase a MB+ because the RFID technology that allows for entering the room, charging, etc., is present in all original Magic Bands. Disney specifically turns those off on the ships though to make more $$... Therefore, I will keep using the KTTW card...

I am about to go on my first cruise next year, does the regular magic band not work on the cruise?

Thanks! I have about 50 bands linked! LOL! I'll just take one!

We just came back from a cruise on the Magic and a week at the Riviera. It was great to have the MB+! More for my DS13 because he didn't have to carry anything around! He could get anywhere he wanted and we gave him charging privileges as well. At the resort you needed a MB or room key to get into the fenced pool area - so even this made things handy.

*Not a big deal but it was pretty cool that the MB also light up during the Pirate Party on deck.

Sadly, no, only the MB+ (which is the same as the DisneyBand+) works on DCL. So all my old MBs get to stay in their box at home.

I am sorry for the redundancy here.... Can you confirm it needs to be a Magic Band + which is different from the old Magic Bands?

I feel the same for all those reasons.
