Yes, it needs to be the MB+, the one that’s rechargeable and can have a design on the puck that is themed the same as the rest of the MB, like my Oswald here. (I removed the puck from the band and put it in a watchband slider so I can have my watch, too.)
They have added an option to Manage your DisneyBand+ in the DCL Navigator app. This was added after my last cruise, so I don't know if it will allow you to select which band you want to be active. My next cruise is in Oct, so I will see what that option does then.

Honestly, getting ours linked at the port was a hot mess, the woman checking us in couldn't get them linked to our room so we had to go to guest services or something up the stairs.
I am not sure I like this, but hey if it works.... A private company providing their technology to the foreign governments. Pretty soon the ports will have a tablet for each ship that is docked so they can check everyone in coming into the port. And since it is a company and not a government it probably works too!
