We stayed at AKL for the first time Dec 22 to 28th. What an experience!! We had a special email rate of 109. per nite for standard view and when we checked in we were told that we had a pool view. We had rooms 5024 and 5026 on the Giraffe Trail, and what a great room, and view. Not only could we see all the activity at the pool, but we also had a view of the Uzima
savanna, and could see giraffes and other animals right from our balcony. It was marvelous! The room we had goes for $365 per nite over Christmas week, so we really had a great bargain. We were also close to a secondary elevator, so we could head right down to the pool and Mara. I kept noticing all these other rooms that wouldn't have a good view - those facing the parking of course, plus many on lower floors seemed to be blocked by trees, and ground floor rooms had no view at all. So the magic was definitely in our room and view.
The lobby was spectacular; the Christmas decorations were spectacular. The whole resort was just wonderful!
We loved the Boma breakfast buffet. We loved the soothing African music you heard everywhere you went. And the animals were so great. I loved seeing those giraffes eat from the trees. We couldn't see any zebras from our room, but there were plenty of other areas to go to watch the animals.
Santa was in the lobby on Christmas eve, along with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto in their holiday outfits. They also had a little orchestra and a small band singing African music. And we even got a present on our door on Christmas morning.
We have stayed at Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Port Orleans, Carribean Beach and Coronada Springs, but I must say I think my favorite has to be Animal Kingdom Lodge. I now understand now what all you other posters are talking about.
Now that we are home, I miss the lobby, and the music, and our room, and the giraffes. But what magical memories we have!
