We were on the first five night sailing of the Magic. A little background - we are a family of 6, myself, dh,dd10, dd5, ds14 and ds16. This was our third cruise with DCL. We cruised On the Wonder, Dream and finally Magic. I was somewhat apprehensive about the Magic after cruising the Dream. Boarding was great- crowd seemed much smaller. We were sailing with a full ship. Our cabin was midship deck 7, we had 2 adjoining staterooms with verandahs. Our cabins were great! Some of the bed linens looked a little worn but the room was comfy and in working order. Our first day was to be at key west however because of crazy winds we could not dock!! Huge disappointment. I would like to say the staff really stepped up adding movies, activities and tours. It rained most of day. By the end of day the kids were swimming in spite of rain. Day 2 was at sea- a great day. The Captain did a wonderful job of dodging rain! Day 3 was Nassau we went to Atlantis for the beach day excursion. I'm glad we did it but will not return. Our access was still very limited to certain beaches. The beach was small and crowded. Lunch was part of package and was ok. Castaway cay was questionable due to winds-again Capt Robert stepped up and got us to port. As for dining an wonderful service team of Stipe and Cindy. We rotated thru all restaurants and had pirate night and See Ya Real Soon menu the last night. The food was good in dining area. The buffets were good seating hard to find at times. It was a great trip - we all loved it however will likely try Fantasy next?
If you have questions let me know

All things being equal (price, itinerary, etc) would you choose the Dream or one of the older ships and why? Very curious about this.

I'm very happy and kinda relieved you had a great time on the Magic!! Like you, my 1st Disney cruise was on the Wonder, I was on the Dream last year and now I am booked on the Magic for her 1st sailing out of NYC!! and I am totally booking onboard for the FANTASY which in my mind..will probably be my favorite!!!

While both have their own perks! Smaller ship, less crowds vs larger ship and larger crowds! I plan on doing Fantasy next while I would jump at the chance to sail on wonder or Magic again - I want to try them all. I really loved both- I don't think I could pick. Sorry not much help! Happy sailing
