Someone mentioned Maggie Valley and Ghost town in the Sky in one of these threads. I just cannot remember who it was or which thread.

Anyway, its been many, many years since I have been to Maggie Valley but I think my dh and dd would love it. I just had a few questions. So, any help would be appreciated :)

How far is it from Maggie Valley to Gatlinburg? Would it be possible to stay in one place and take a day trip over to the other? If so, would it be cheaper to stay in Maggie Valley than in Gatlinbur? What else is there to do in the Maggie Valley area? How about hotels and resteraunts?

From what I understand, Ghost Town is not what it use to be. I've never been there, but have gone by it a couple times while going to Cherokee to the casino!:lmao:

I have no other information for you frpm your questions. One thing I have heard since Ghost Town reopened a couple years ago, it's already filing for bankruptcy, atleast according to the news I hear in Charlotte.
:confused3

Good morning! I live smack dab in the middle of Maggie Valley! Ghost Town is really not what it once was. I just think it is dirty and not well run at all! I live just a few miles from there and you couldn't pay me to go! The town of Maggie is cute and Waynesville(which is the next town over) has quite a few shops and restaurants. Then there are the Great smoky Mountains all around us. Great hiking, white water rafting. Gatlinburg is about an hours drive just depending on the time of year you visit and the traffic. We go to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge at least once a year. We love Dollywood, Splash Country and love to shop over there! We live in a beautiful part of our great country! I more than happy to answer any other questions you may have!

DH travels to Maggie Valley and we would like to go with him sometime, so I'm curious about what to do here too. It's great that it is so close to Pigeon Forge!
Thanks!

Thanks for the info. That's a shame about Ghost Town. I went in 1977 and had a ball. My dh would have loved the shoot out in the town and the music. Way back then it really had a lot of potential. I remember Maggie Valley being a beautiful place and so peaceful. I am sure its grown a lot since then but still thought it may be more relaxing than staying in Gatlinburg. We definitly will go to Gatlinburg and Dollywood. But are planning to go in November or December so I think Splash Country will have to wait. :)

I have been off and on planning a trip to the mountains for a couple of years now; but we either end up back at Disney(:woohoo:) or just doing something more local. So this is the year, I think!

One of the first times I went through Maggie Valley was in the fall. It was SO pretty with all the scarecrows & the festive fall decorations. We were a couple weeks shy of the leaves being at their peak color, but I bet that would have been amazing.

Ghost Town does look like it could have been awesome, but getting my husband to the top of the hill would have been a chore! :lmao:

I didn't know Gaitlinburg was so close!
:thumbsup2
