Maggie Smith has died

I just saw this and was sad to hear of her passing. The first time I ever saw her act was in the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. My parents took my brothers and me to the drive-in having no idea what the movie was about. We left halfway through but I was awed by her performance and have loved watching her performances through the years. May she RIP.

“Travels with My Aunt” that she made with Lou Gosset, jr., replacing Katherine Hepburn (who made “The Madwoman of Chaillot” instead) . Mr. Gosset, to the end of his days, recalled the film as a time he worked with true professionals.

“A Room with a View”, a film where most everyone who was somebody in Brit theatre was seen; “California Suite”, N. Simon’s companion piece to “Plaza Suite” where she played an actress hoping against hope to win an Oscar, interacting with her gay husband played by Michael Caine.
“Murder by Death”- let the giggles begin!

Her later career and intro to a younger audience as a wizard and grande dame were just well earned scenery eating.

Just seeing her enter a scene had me sitting at the edge of my seat in anticipation. She was amazing and aren’t we lucky so much of her career is preserved on film? Thank you, thank you 🙏🏾 ❤️‍🔥💕

Very sad about this. I remember in the next to the last Downton Abbey, she had a scene saying goodbye, with all of us thinking that would be her last movie. Then she lived to be in the next one! 🥰

You will be so missed, Dame Maggie. Thank you for the lifetime of characters you have blessed us with.

Have never heard of her, but may she Rest In Peace.

Dan, really? She's a big time actress best known for her roles in Harry Potter as Professor McGonagall and Downton Abbey as the great Dowager Countess of Grantham. Maybe these images of her will help...

:sad1: This is indeed a very sad day. Thank you for sharing your gift, Rest in Peace.
