has anyone gone on Maelstrom in Norway? If so whats it like? Just wondering to see if its intense or something because of my children

It's a calm boat ride w/ a movie at the end. I think you might want to check out the "put out to pasture" thread :rotfl:

Back! Back! Over de falls!

I love Maelstrom!! I think its 10,000 times cooler than Test Track (which I did once and have no desire to do again.. zzzzzzz). It does have some mean trolls and a bit of a drop when you go... back! back! over de falls!! :teeth:

It should be fine for your kids, if they can handle Pirates they can do Maelstrom.

Depends on your children. My 3 1/2 yo grandson was fine with it. It is a boat ride that starts smoothly, then takes a couple of corners and goes down a watery decline (sort of like a kiddie roller coaster, which isn't scary at all). It is a very quick ride. I think it lasts about 5 minutes and I think it was just a creative way to get you into their store to buy things. It is kind of dark and has some figures that I guess can be scary for some children. Like I said, I think it depends on how skittish your kids are.

A caution. This ride may not seem calm to a small child. There are things that might scare a kid including: darkness, a drop, a large white polar bear, and several trolls.

Just my opinion.

I love Maelstrom. Just wish it was a bit longer. Also wish there was a secret way so you didn't have to be held captive waiting for the previous film to end.

I agree...we watched the movie the first time we rode it. Now we have to wait for them to open the doors to the theater so we can leave.

My 5 year old will not ride it... he remembers being 4 and riding it and not liking it. Its the trolls for him that are the issue. My 2 year old is too young yet to care.

Ummmmm, this ride to me is like some sort of roadside attraction. Very Un-Disney like IMHO. It's boring, dark and REALLY needs updating! The only good thing about it is, if it's really hot, it's really cool inside the ride, but believe me, if you decide not to do it, you won't be missing a thing!

Aside from that, it is not intense, but it can creep out some younger kids.
My niece was six when she went on it and it was just too dark and spooky for her. Then after she rode Maelstorm, she didn't want to go on any other dark rides! We had a heck of time talking her into Small World and she wouldn't even do Peter Pan!

How little is the drop? My kids are 5 and 7 and i am not sure if the 5 year old would think of it. Any one know?

How little is the drop?

VERY little, I don't even know if I'd call it a "drop", it's more like going down a small hill in a car going about 10 miles an hour.

It's a little like a small hill on a log flume ride, and I don't think anybody really gets wet. Scared my 7-year old, though.

You have to know your children. My DD is almost 7 and rather brave but she will NOT go back on this ride! She doesn't like drops in the dark, and the reason why it is hard to talk her into riding Pirates.

Maybe ride it yourself first...??

Jill

My DH LOOOVVEES this ride for some reason. Last trip I think we rode it at least 7 times. Plus he convinced my mother that she would get wet on the drop and she put her poncho on!

I think it is pretty tame.

BIG Ditto on that one! Love the ride, hate waiting for the doors to open with no ther way out.

My kids liked it. And my DS is a big whiner. He hated Pirates but this one was fine lol. (Yeah and before I get in trouble for making him ride it, it was his choice)

I couldn't have said it better myself! I made my group ride this because I thought I remembered liking it. Wrong! Bad bad bad ride! :crazy2:

If I remember correctly, the drop is not only dark, but it is backwards as well. It has a potential to scare a child since it will be totally unexpected, dark and backwards. Although it is not a big drop, the drop and speed are such that it irritated both my DH and my backs. So to adults, no it's not a big drop, but if it can bother your back, it may seem like a big drop to a child.

I don't think the drop is actually backwards but the boat does go backwards for a small portion of the ride (p.s. thats the part with the big scary polar bear that freaked me out and I am in my mid-twenties!)

This ride is OK. If you think your kid(s) will be scared don't even bother with it. You won't miss much at all.
