the official disney website doesn't say anything about not riding this while pregnant. however, allearsnet.com says that expectant mothers may wish to bypass this attraction...not sure if that's for safety reasons, or for comfort, motion sickness. it's been a whle since we rode it...does it seem jerky, or the hill too rough for a pregnant woman? thanks!

It Seemed Like A Pretty Calm Ride To Me, Except When I Said " Oh My God We're Going Down The Waterfall Backwards" ( The One You See On The Outside) My Daughter & Niece Started Screaming Hysterically. Chickens! I Was Only Kidding!

I rode it on my first trip to WDW when I was 4 months pregnant. I believe it has a small drop like POTC. But nothing too bad.

Maelstrom gets my "lamest ride at WDW" award. I wouldn't worry one bit about it...

No, I wouldn't worry about this ride. I think you'll be fine riding it while pg.

On another note: When I was in line for the Safari at AK last month, a pg mom was in line in front on me (probably around 7 months). The CM who was collecting the FastPasses told her to tell the CM who was seating people to give her a seat up in the front of the ride because it is less bumpy. There are signs saying pg moms shouldn't ride it and they even announce it over the loud speakers. When she got up to the CM who was seating everyone, she said that the last CM told her to sit up front because it was less bumpy. I don't know exactly what the CM told her, but she wouldn't put the pg mom up front. This mom was about the 3rd row from the back. I really felt bad for her because I know how bumpy that ride is! She should never have ridden that ride.

I would go by what Disney officially says for pregnancy. If it was at all a safety situation, Disney would recommend pregnant women avoid it.

One of the problems with the allears site is that the information is from surveys people fill out on their website, but you have no idea why they thought it was not a good ride for someone with that situation. I know I filled out several surveys regarding disabilities on the site and you had to choose a best and worst ride for each park. You had to choose to go to the next question and there was not a space to explain why.
For Maelstrom, it could be that some women late in pregnancy found it difficult to get into the seats, or felt the seats were uncomfortable for them, or for part of the ride, you are facing backwards - maybe some peole found they had motion sickness from doing that. It's hard to say.

I went to AK when I was four months pregnant and chose not to ride the Safari after reading the sign. MY DH and parents went on without me and they said it was a good thing - the ride was very bumpy and they were in the front of the ride. Better safe than sorry, I always say.

I rode the safari when pregnant (18 weeks) and had no problem. I didn't ride any other rides where they advise you not to since they have centrifigal forces which can harm the fetus. However, the safari is only bumpy and your baby has the best shock absorber system in the world plus I had discussed doing this ride prior to going with my doctor. No different to me than riding down some of the country roads around where i use to live. However, with Maelstrom, I would check with my doctor first although I don't remember that ride being that bad (can't remember if I did it while pregnant - I'd have to ask my husband since he's the one with the memory!).
Have a great trip!

thanks so much for your input. i would like to ride it, and feel comfortable since disney doesn't have a warning, but i just wanted to make sure with the drop! thank you!!!
