Made ressies for 6 people now 7 coming?

I made reservations for 6 people, but now it looks like we will have 7 people and I can't get new reservations for 7 at our old times. Can I just show up and say we have 7. Do you think we can get another chair at the table?

I doubt they will allow you to pull up a chair at a table for 6 at most places. That often causes traffic flow problems and can violate fire codes.

I hope someone else has experience with this and can better answer your question.

I know when we had a reservation for 4 and it was only 2 of us it was no problem. But that's a horse of a different color.

Have you tried making reservations for a split party? (like 4 at one table and 3 at another)

They won't do extra chairs or even high chairs beyond the number you book for. If it's a large place and not too busy and they can make it work they will usually let you wait awhile and try to work it out but some smaller/busier places just can't make it work. Like the PP stated doing 2 tables of 4 and 3 might be easier and they always try and get adjoining tables.

I would try to keep rebooking, don't rely on them just agreeing when you get there. There is a better chance the 7th person won't get in than not.

There are such things as tables for 6 and tables for 8. You booked a table for 6 and are trying to book one for 8 (because you are now 7). If no tables for 8 are available, they only have an obligation to give you a table for 6. If they have a combination of other tables ready, or you are willing to wait, you may get lucky. Just remember they have zero obligation to seat 7 people. They will either say they can seat 6 or you can go elsewhere. They won't put it quite like that but they have the right to deny you.

My advice, keep looking online or find another TS. Otherwise, be prepared when you arrive.

I will say it depends on the place and he time of reservation.

if its a busy time of year-- and a busy place it might be hard.
In that case what will you do? cancel the reservation and not go?
or will your extra jsut wait foryou to be done?

Last year I had already booked our Christmas week reservations for 6 when my SIL & BIL told us they would be visiting there for 3 days and would love to join us for dinner. For 2 months months I tried to change the ADRS to 8 with no luck.

Since they had no ADRS at all, we decided to just see what would happen if we asked if it was possible to increase the party size when we checked-in at the restaurant. At the California Grill they said it was no problem and we were seated within 10 minutes of our ADR time. Same result at Teppan Edo on New Years Eve. But Le Cellier told us there was no way they could seat 8

It's possible we were already booked at an 8 top at the the CG. And the grill tables at Teppan Edo are for 8 anyway, so maybe there just wasn't a party of 2 to pair us with at that time.

You may get lucky and be able to add a 7th person at check-in, but if they say no you'll be in a situation where 6 of you can eat and the 7th is left to fend for themselves. I really hope you're able to make it work.

Last summer we had a reservation for CRT for breakfast for only two people and we met some friends that morning at Magic Kingdom, we decided to go together and asked about any chances they had to fit all of us together they were really kind and told us to wait for 15 min and they change my ADR from a party of two to a party of eight. I think we also had some luck that day because that evening we were able to do the same at LeCellier so I think it depends on the time of year you are planning to go. My suggestion is keep trying to change your ADR don't just wait until you get there. We did it like this because we didn't know our friends were going to be there at the same time we did.

We just got back form a wonderful week.
My husband had decided to come along with us at the last minute so we went to a party of 4 to a party of 5. We had 7 adrs, and at every one of them we're able to get in no problem and no extra wait.
Just show up with your party size, and they will seat you all.
I had a cm tell me they never had to turn someone away just for 1 extra person Have a great time.

Those stragglers make things so difficult. My Dear Mom just decided she might like to join us in Nov. Grrr, we are going from a party of 4 to 5. I'm going to re-book what we can get, and she'll just be left out of the stuff I can't change. I hate to be that way, but I don't want to miss some of those coveted reservations that I booked online at 6am at 90 days out!!! Luckily there aren't many of them, and she's pretty easy-going. Just wanted to let you know I feel your pain, OP, and I don't think I'd chance it just showing up. Going to "less" people is one thing, but 6 to 7 is as bad as 4 to 5!

Our last trip my mom decided to join us after making our ADR's. I was able to switch all reservations, with the excpeption of LeCellier. The CM on the phone told me to "keep" it, without saying it wouldn't be an issue. We did have a back up plan just in case we couldn't eat there at another restaurant at a later time.

Anyway she was able to eat with us without any issues and we did cancel our ADR (under my mom's name and reservation number at a not so popular restaurant) We were a party of 4 to a party of 5.

Have you tired to get a table for 2 at the same times? You might need to split up or they might be able to get you together.
