I do this for each of our family vacations. I buy the shirts at Sams for $5 each, the transfer paper and then I add my own design and font.
The past two years we've traveled at Thanksgiving so I've used a turkey holding a protest sign. For our 2003 trip to WDW I added mouse ears using the basic drawing tools on MS Word, added the words "Walt Disney World or Bust" on the sign and Thanksgiving 2003.
This year we cruised on the Disney Magic...I used the same turkey, changed the words to "Grand Cayman, Cozumel,
Castaway Cay or Bust" on the sign and above the turkey put "Cruising with the Turkey Day Gang on the Disney Magic" for our DIS board group and below "Thanksgiving 2004".
Both of these shirts were big hits...at WDW many CM's told me I should make and sell the shirts they were so cute. I told them I didn't think Mr. Eisner would approve. One CM from Indiana working at City Hall told me I'd made his day when he saw my shirt. At CC Goofy gave us big thumbs up when we posed with him in our shirts.
I've also made shirts for our non-Disney trips that have gotten a lot of positive responses. Once I started designing shirts for my husband's band at home I got hooked...I've made Big Brother/Big Sister shirts for my older great niece and nephew, High School Graduation shirts, Interpreter shirts, 50th birthday shirts for friends, and my dad's...who loved that joke about "Duh! Big Red Truck" and had just bought a new red truck...then his follow up shirt with the super model on the truck that says "Duh! Heck with the big red truck!" both of which he wears proudly...the super model more often though. He's 73 and gets a big kick out of it...told one kid (twenty-something) that the super model came with his big red truck. lol
Anyway, it is a lot of fun to design your own shirts...you can make them more special that way!
