I have made a reservation mistake using developer points. My question is this - can I change the names on the reservation or the number of people as long as the dates and type of room stay the same?
Thanks!

Good question. The rules for developer points are so unclear that I don't know if Member Services can even answer your question.

I can ask the same question to two MS Advisers and get two completely different answers.

Every time I get developer points, I say to myself, never again. Then like an idiot, I get more. :sad2:

Would you mind clarifying what exactly "developer points" are?

Thanks :flower3:
They are one of the incentives offered to purchase DVC. It all depends on what is being offered when you decide to purchase but they may match the number of annual points you purchase instead of giving you a discount per point (such as $10 off per point on the purchase price). The most recent offer I think gave you 100 "free" developer points when you purchased 160.

The difference is that developer points is a one time incentive that are good for one year. In other words, you get the 100 points mentioned above to use within one year and then they are gone. It is like offering you a "free" vacation as incentive to purchase DVC.

From what I read recently (since the developer points are not points declared into DVC for sale, there are only a limited amount) someone said that they think all available developer points have been given out, or at least are very near the end of their availability but I don't know that for sure.

When additional DVC resorts are built, that may make additional developer points available again until all new units are sold (assuming they are currently all gone).

They can also only be booked 7 months out for resorts and do not show up as points on the website.
Very confusing and I agree that you can get different answers from different CM's on MS.

I just made some really crazy changes with my developer points. I had one reservation for my daughters and changed their resort and then with the remaining points I booked 3 nights for my sister. The room I booked for my sister was with a small amount of developer points and some leftover points I had for this use year. Hopefully, it will all go though ok. As you do not see right away on the website, I am crossing my fingers that it all works out OK.:scared1:

Thanks everyone. I was VERY dumb. I didn't realize that checking dates on the DVC member website was actually making a firm reservation. Of course, I was less than 30 days out. We have a four day weekend in April and were thinking about going. (days reserved for bad weather - we don't get much of that in Dallas)

All to say, I found direct flights on Priceline for $199 RT so we decided to just go rather than try to rent out the ressie or put the points in holding. YEA!!
