While I was at Walmart tonight I noticed these dolls - I couldn't study them very closely because my daughter was with me. She mentioned she'd like one for Christmas - she knows we can't afford AmGirl dolls. These were $35 and looked to be around the same size - they had clothing for purchase also. Does anyone has one and how do they hold up?

My daughter has one from 3 years ago. (They were for sale at Xmas time at Sam's club.) The clothes and doll are the same size as AmGirl Dolls. The doll is very nice for what it is....(it's not AmGirl quality, but it is a good quality doll.)

do you know how this doll compares to the Our Generation doll from Target?

I noticed them the other day also! They are very cute and look like good quality!

We have 18" Madame Alexander Dolls from Costco. My MIL bought them for my younger DD when older DD got her American Girl. We got 1 last Christmas & 1 the Christmas before last.

I have to say the faces on the MA dolls are beautiful! Even prettier than the AG faces if you ask me. They are made well, have not broken or ripped. The biggest difference in quality as far as I can see is the hair. The AG hair gets messy when she is played with, but with a good brushing can be styled to look same as like new. The MA dolls wig is not as good a quality. the one from last year is still in pretty good shape, the one from 2 years ago is a bit of a mess! My DD was also only 4 when she got her so she has been through the ringer!

I think if your daughter wants a doll she can play with & dress, and AG isn't in the budget, she will be happy with the MA instead.

DM just bought DD8 a MA doll at walmart when they were there last weekend. We have quite a few AG dolls in the house so I've been able to compare side by side. The quality is not the same and the hair (DD8 got a shorter haired version, not one with really long hair) already looks very played with compared to Kit & Nellie who both have AG hair about the same length. The wig style seperates when the doll is laid down with hair laying in every direction so that contributes to a messier look for me. The body is thinner - and the arms/legs/feet smaller so it doesn't balance standing alone on the dresser as well as AG, tending to fall over.

It is a very cute doll but before I spent $35-$40 of my money on one, I'd spend the time searching and buy a nice preowned AG on craigslist or ebay instead. You can find real AG dolls for $40 on both craigslist & ebay if you watch and in the end it'll last longer. Just like planning is half the fun of disney trips, shopping and scoring that deal on a doll can be very satisfying also... :thumbsup2
