For those of you that have shopped at a Macy's.....

Do you like the one(s) you have been in? I'm trying to decide if I want to drive an hour and a half to the nearest one. I hate to admit it, but..... the commercials on TV have sucked me in. :rotfl:

I love the one at the Mall of America but the ones that used to be Daytons (then Marshall Fields) are small and don't have the selection that the one at MOA has--but that is 3 levels and the rest are one to two levels.

they are not the store they used to be. the ones around here are awful now. not worth the drive in my book.

macys is no different than penneys, boscov, bon-ton, sears, etc, etc....we have em all and if they blindfolded ya and plopped ya down in one you would not be able to tell.

Thank you for the replys. Actually ya'll have pretty much said what I was afraid of. :thumbsup2

I much prefer Dillards to Macy's at our Mall.
Macy's seems more lower end-like Penny's-only carrys a very few of the better brands that I prefer.

Depends on the Macy's. IMO not all are created equal. We have two at one of our malls and one I love and the other I hate. So unless I knew what kind of Macy's it really was I wouldn't go.

those commercials are great though, aren't they? makes me wish the reality wasn't what it is.

It really depends on the Macys.

Our Lexington store is nice but sizes sell out quickly.
The Oxmoor store in Louisville is also nice.
The Jefferson store in Louisville is small with no selection.
The Florence store is so-so.
THe Kenwood store in Cincinnati is nice.
Easton in Columbus is good.
Belden Village in Canton, OH is a pit.

We find that the nicer the mall, the nicer the Macys.

Love the commercials but I wouldn't drive very far to shop there unfortunately! They aren't what they used to be.

Ours is nice and has much better quality items than Penney's or Sears....and prices to go with them.
2 floors.
Sales can be good, but they don't have good ones often enough.

Can any Macy's shoppers give me any info on the Captain Mickey offer they had? Is he still around?

I love my Macy's and no comparison to JCpenney around here. 4 floors and great merchandise. Only two other Macy's that are better (near me), Herald Square, NYC and Roosevelt Field.

I think you should make the trip! :)

I am shocked to read about Macys being compared to Jcp and Sears:crazy2:

Macys in Cal and here in AZ are for the most part very upscale dept stores:snooty:

I do know that the lower end malls Macys carry less of the designer brands and styles but the Macys here in Phx at the Biltmore has top fashion brands.
Now they are not Saks or Neimans...a step below....but they are way above Jcp and Sears...which I consider both to be lower end affordable stores.

I guess it really depends on the locations.

A lot of Macys sell Louis Vuitton and Chanel too:love:

The one in the mall near me is a one-story shoebox specializing in blue-hair clothing. It really depends on the area. I loved it when they were Burdine's and actually kept shorts in stock all year. I mean really I live in Florida, the coat I purchased in 1992 will work till I'm 90. I might to get to wear it two days a year but shorts I need those almost everyday.

I've found this to be very true. If it's an upscale mall or shopping district, you'll get an upscale Macy's.

In my area, I much prefer Nordstroms.

Do you have local dept stores? Or are you a ways from town? I'm 30 minutes from Dillards and Macys. I'll take Dillards any day. It's hard to describe, but our Macy's seem impersonal.

Ditto. My favorite of the 5 malls in the immediate area has both a Macy's and a Nordstrom. It's a very very nice mall so it has a very nice Macy's however Nordstrom is better. In the cheapest mall, the Macy's is icky.

The only Macy's around here that was approaching JCP/Sears-level was a former Famous Barr and has closed. It was the only real remaining anchor store in that mall, so I'm basically counting the days till the mall shows up on deadmalls.com. Very sad.

I LOVEE our Macy's-- always great sales. I can get DBF's designer ties (Ben Sherman) for half off. They're normally $50 and I'd say at least every other week, they have a 50% off sale. We always get fantastic coupons, too. The selection and cleanliness is great. I personally prefer Lord and Taylor's for high end shoes and bags, but Macy's has a much better clothing selection.
I'd say take the drive and make a day out of it! Bring a friend! I love exploring new malls/stores:goodvibes
