Macy's - Make Up Counter Which One??

Even after a makeover, you can only get the products you are interested in. My advice is get the foundation, concealer and transparent powder. It's microfine and doesn't look powdery on. It is important to have someone match you with your correct coloring. If your foundation color is off, everything else on top of that will be too. I was always paranoid I'd be one of those women who is wearing very obviously the WRONG color foundation and you can see a very definite demarcation line at the neck.

My makeup artist friend matched a foundation & concealer to the exact shade of my skin. If I wanted, I could just dot it over a pimple, without doing my whole face - that is how close of a skin match my foundation & concealer color are. Do you know how many different drugstore brand bottles I'd have to buy & toss before finding the right color on my own?

Sometimes, being cheap is actually more expensive. Use the makeup people for their expertise. (But, of course, don't get talked into colors or a style you don't want.)


My blush is still a color from a previous makeover at Origins, not MAC. I didn't feel the need to switch brands just because I got a makeover. I still like the color and it was a similar enough shade to the MAC.

My eyeliner is cheapo Revlon Colorstay, from the drugstore. Not giving that up for the world as that stays on forever.

My lipstick is currently 2 cheapie E.L.F. lipcolors I got from the dollar store. I mix them both together and get a great color. I even stocked up on extra tubes. So cheap!

I am, by no means a makeup maven. I prefer a really natural look. Most times, I don't wear foundation or powder at all. Just a swipe of blush, eyeliner & lipcolor. But, when I do want a nice, flawless look, it's nice having the best foundation, that I know matches and doesn't make me look made up. People would say, "I clean up well."

Thanks for the great advice! I plan on going one day this week to check out the Macy's and ask questions. I definitely need foundation... my skin these days is horrible. I am breaking out (worse then I ever did as a teenager) and my skin is dry. The joys of aging . I really want to get the foundation correct.

My plan is to have our hair done (me and DD) then head over to Macy's for our make up (on the morning of the wedding). Wedding is in the evening, but we need to be ready in the afternoon for pictures. I also want a very natural, clean look for DD, she is only 14!

Once she gets her buttt outta bed we will head over today or tomorrow... at this point I am leaning towards tomorrow.

I don't know about everyone else..but the weather here In Jersey SUCKS! We are wet and cool!

I am thinking I will let them try some stuff on me when I check them out and then come back with the appt for the application and to buy!

Hmmm...gotta see if mil wants to watch DS9...I don't think he will like going to the makeup counter!! LMAO!!

My DD had hers done at the MAC store a few times. They do a great job but they *can* look a bit theatrical. But just tell them what you need. Even their "theaterical" look is wonderful looking. If you are having pictures done (as you would at a wedding) sometimes heavy, defined (yet natural) looking makeup is good. My DD's was fairly heavy for her prom, yet she looked VERY natural in the photos.

For DD, she may like the mineral powders, like Bare Minerals. From what I've read (here) they are perfect for younger skin, that isn't on the dry side, doesn't have texture problems or wrinkles. Powders just sink in and makes wrinkles look more obvious. The older the & wrinklier the skin, the less powder can go on.

Diane Sawyer, on some makeup segment on GMA, was talking about how she will not let her makeup person near her with powder. She said, she's always saying, "No powder under my eyes!" She puts on only enough powder to set her foundation on the rest of her face. She said she cannot use mineral powders at all. I don't know what liquid foundation she does use, but she still looks fabulous.

Go to the drugstore and get a good, but cheap microfine dermabrasion scrub and use it before you try on makeup. Also use it on the morning of the wedding. Don't scrub hard, but do rub for a good 2 minutes all over the face. It really lifts off the dead surface layer of skin and makes foundation look ultra smooth. Sometimes, people think a certain brand of foundation makes their skin look dry & leathery. But, if they haven't done a microderm abrasion scrub, they are putting foundation on dry, dead skin, and the combo, yes, looks leathery.

Yes, New York has been gross, too, lately. Freezing and rainy! Plus, leaves are already falling-- not ready for cold weather!
Just FYI again, MAC refused to do anything but my eyes unless I committed to buying four products on the spot! Make sure you check with them (if you go with MAC) what the requirements are! I guess I'm just a little biased against MAC because they literally made me look like a drag queen (purple eyeshadow up to the brow bone) when I asked for a "light, natural look." I've always found the Clinique girls MUCH more approachable and easy to talk with.
If you have a Sephora near you, I'd definitely go there instead! That way, the artist could use make up from all different lines-- you can get the best of each kind of products (a MAC manager told me once that there are much better brands for skin. She said their specialty/focus is color), instead of having to stick with one brand. Plus, since the girls there don't work on commission, they won't pressure you to buy anything. They did my make up on the spot, so I don't know if they do appointments, but it's definitely worth looking into

I would NOT do this for first time on the day of the wedding!

What if you DONT like it?

I'd do a trial run first-or see- my hairdresser does a makeup session also-more convienient.

I like Clinique. Their products are very good, especially for sensitive skin. All the ladies at the Clinique counter have been very willing to do makeovers with makeup without a purchase, although I have always felt guilty enough that I have made a purchase. The only strange situation I had was the first time I took DD there. She had a teenage boy do her makeup!! That was wierd but he did do a good job. He ended up being a cousin of a girl she went to school with.

Clinique, Bobbi Brown, MAC, Estee Lauder and a couple of others are all part of the same company. If you want MAC discounted and you live near an outlet mall chances are there will be a COMPANY STORE(the name) which has all these brands. The mark down is 30% and the reason usually is that it is from an older line. They change lines at least 4 times per year. I have gotten tons of make up and brushes too and a lower price.

MAC! it is what professionals use and it is long lasting.

I wear MAC daily and I can glam it up or keep it very neutral and natural. The Makeup artist can adapt to what the client needs. It woul dbe good to have a trial run and consult prior to the big day. This way you can confirm you are getting what you want

Please purchase the lipstick they use though, be nice to touch up during the day. You will not need to touch up anything else, it will last all day!
