Macbooks---overpriced

I have a Mac Book Pro and a PC laptop for work. I can say without a doubt that Apple makes a superior product. As another poster said, it is the little things done so well that really add up, plus not having to worry about viruses, etc. that really give it an edge.

I have an iPhone and a Blackberry for work. I can again say the iPhone blows the Blackberry out of the water. The design and technology is so heads and shoulders above the Blackberry, it seems the Blackberry is years older than the iPhone (even though it isn't).

I came rather late to the Apple family and was a critic for a long time. Now that I am in, I am not going back.

I m a goverment computer geek-which means i work with all kinds of platforms and all kinds of operating systems-in my personal life we have 3 Toshiba windows laptops-two running vista and one xp-and an aged desktop that says HP on the box and runs the orignal processor and motherboard-the rest of its guts are a hodge podge of what ever i installed at the time the previous part broke-and two MAC book pros-and i will go toe to toe with anyone who says the apple is a superior product. they are junk. My sons Macbook has had to go back to Apple 4 times in three years-for a mother board, memory defects, video card-and another motherboard. the other one has had battery issues from the get go and finally had to have interal power connections repaired-and the customer service wasnt that hot either. both of these machines were top of the line and cost more than 3 times my most expensive toshiba-one of them has been to Iraq three times and still runs like a champ.
Mos of the differences people tout about macs are operating system and not hard ware related-i can get the same affect by bying a PC and stipping off windows and loading any flavor of Linux. Mostly its hype and the belief that they are better-not reality.

My dad always likes to say, when you buy a Mac you're not buying a computer, you're buying "style." I'd have to agree with him. That being said, we've owned both Macs and PCs over the years. We like both, depending on what we use them for. Right now I'm using a Vaio, but personally I'd buy an iMac for home and stick with the Vaio for my laptop.
As a side note, and I'm probably the only one who thinks this, but I don't understand people who say Macs are easier to use Maybe it's just the way I think, but it's not as intuitive for me as it is for other people.

After owning at LEAST 10 PCs for personal use (3 desktops, 7 laptops) not to mention the multitude I have used in my professional life, I stand by my statement that Apple makes a superior product. This is the best computer I have ever had, period. I was an Apple hater for a long time so I can say I haven't bought into any hype. I just had to finally admit that Apples are better.

My father bought the first Mac in 1984 and was still using it in 1994---I have never had a PC that didn't die after 3-4 years.

Well, we also have my husband's first Mac from 1984 and it still worked the last time we played with it.


I LOVE my MacBook Pro and I don't think it was overpriced at all.

Anyone interested in mp3 players should check out anythingbutipod.com...with the players, it really does seem that it's a name you're buying...most other players are better than what apple puts out. It seems. From DH's research.

Hear Hear. iPods sound terrible. No user configurable EQ. Personally I've purchased 2 players from this company:

Their players have highly configurable tone control (EQ, bass boost, aural processing etc.), sound great, and have plenty of output power.

We have both but I prefer the PC. DH runs XP on his macbook. I may get one soon so I can run something from work on it, but I am sure I will eventually install windows on it. Both MAC's & PC's have issues. DH's macbook has gone back 3 times with problems. My Gateway laptop that I have now has not had one issue in 3 years. I've had great customer service from them. My desktop is an HP and I am not too happy with their customer service.

I need a computer to use the Internet, Microsoft Office, and Itunes. Why in the world would I pay 3-5 times the amount a PC costs to do those things w/ a Mac?

I've used Macs before. They're fine, but, most of my usage occurred in the 90s and mid-00s at school and at work. You haven't lived until the bomb appears on your screen indicating that the computer crashed. Maybe they've fixed that problem. I never thought they were any better than a PC.

I have a HP/Compaq. It does what I need it to do. And it cost what I needed it to cost.

I think it's hilarious that the Apple store people will sell you on such an awesome, superior product, then once you buy it, sell Apple Care to you!

Its great you have had such a positive experience-but-i have over site for 235 gov machines-plus the five currently at at home ( previous post) and those we have had in the past-best of all those-a previous lenovo laptop which still ran with a cracked mother board and a toshiba laptop that we have had since 01-three trips to iraq and still running-sand an all-the ONLY machine i have EVER seen need two mother board replacements while still in warrenty was my sons MacBook-so my experience-and there fore my opinion-differ. Everybody sees things in their own way

imac here and I love the hades out of it. I did buy some extras for it, wireless keyboard and mouse, but it has been great. Also love Applecare, they have been good to me when I have had real problems with the machine, after lightning strikes.

I owned a Vaio until the mac and love my Vaio Laptop. My Vaio desktop however decided one day it would read anything USB...ACK!

As for the expense, have you looked at the refurbished site? Good deals and same warranties as a new Imac....

I have a Macbook and I love it. I am not a computer expert by any means but it is easy to use, the battery has lasted well, I've never had a technical problem with it and it runs very quickly. I'm sure there are PCs out there that I would also love but as it is, in the future I would most likely look at an Apple laptop before a PC.

what's funny to me are all these great customer service stories about apple.

I had the worst experience with apple. After about 3 months, my mac started to freeze ALL the time. My dad backed everything up and completely rebooted teh system. Nothin. still froze adn drained teh battery. So we took it into appl. It was gone for 6 WEEKS!!!!! when I got it back, it was worse than when I had brought it in. It would freeze and than shut down in teh middle of doing something and the battery would not charge at all. Just in general...we found customer service to be a joke

With our HP, we needed to get a new battery (long story as to why the battery needed to be replaced....involves an enginner dad who loves to take computers apart and 2 dogs) and we called HP and had a new battery within 4 days.

Sorry to tell you OSx gets viruses too, in fact the viruses they do get are more threatening and alot of PC viruses.

This actually shocks me, really, because I can't get HP to replace my battery to save my life. It currently runs a whopping 8 minutes on battery power and gets too hot to touch after being on for about 15 minutes using the power cord. EVERY other battery for this laptop model has been recalled due to over heating. Of course they are happy to charge me $150 for a new battery.

There is so much unnecessary junk on that computer that it doesn't run correctly 1/2 the time anyway. Thankfully, I don't have to actually do work on it.

I've been happy with my DS's Compaq (same company) but the HP is a joke.
