I love mac and cheese and the only meat type thing I put in it occasionally is tuna but always have to put a dallop of sour cream in it it just brings the cheese flavor out a bit more.
When I was a kid, my mom put tuna in it. I never liked heated canned tuna, I always preferred it cold like in a tuna salad sandwich. We would also have Hamburger Helper-type stuff with ground beef. I never liked that either. I always wanted my mac-and-cheese plain.
Now, of course, it's all moot 'cuz I don't eat meat. I should try putting broccoli in it. That would taste good.
as a side, I don't add anything (except garlic powder). Sometimes, for dinner I'll make Velveeta Cheeseburger Macaroni by adding ground beef and BBQ sauce to Shells and Cheese. Yummy!
Nope, kids like it plain and I wont eat it. I dont know why I wont eat it, I like cheese and I like pasta...makes no sense. I think its from my moms homemade stuff which she made with sharp cheddar so it had a real strong taste, and being a child of the 70's was told to sit there and eat it or you cant get down from the table.Used to gag through the whole meal.
I do that all the time. Come to think of it, everyone I know puts Ketchup on their mac and cheese. Maybe its a Canadian thing? Even the commercials for Kraft dinner have people putting ketchup on their mac and cheese.
