Mac Suggestions?

So I'm looking for a new laptop to use for school. I want to stay in the 1500-1800 ish range I think price wise. What kind of mac do I want?? I 'd use it for some home things - pictures, Internet surfing, etc. but mainly school work. Preferably something really portable as well. How well can it use word, excel, etc. How does that work if I work on something with a school computer in word and then need to work on it on a mac?

Unless you really need the upgrade, the basic macbook would be great for you. You can buy Microsoft Office for the Mac, gnereally free or cheap from your school. Or if you buy the Mac office suite, it is fully compatable with Microsoft products to work between the 2 with no problems. Other than the office software, everything you need comes in the box, ready to go,
