If we get to MK right before opening @ 9 (Sun 3/1)...…...and do not care to watch the opening show. How long of a wait is normal to meet Mickey & Tink?
Touring plans is saying an hour for Mickey. Could that be correct???
We normally rope drop a ride so, I've never looked into this.

I'd be shocked if it was anything other than a brief wait. Yes, Mickey is very popular and lots of people have fastpasses. But you'd have to be nuts to use a fastpass for Mickey straight up at 9 AM. I would expect most to be using it later in their hour (although maybe Mickey is different since it's so close to the front of the park).

I'd love to hear how it goes.

I'm shocked TP is saying that long.
This is totally not the way I normally rope drop but, this trip is different & I need to get that out of the way.

Touring Plans always assumes you’re at the very back of the mob of people at Rope Drop. There’s no way to change this setting. It’s very annoying.

there will be a line for Mickey before Rope Drop because it’s on Main Street. Get there a half hour before opening and you won’t wait long once the park opens. The number of people using FPs right at Rope Drop shouldn’t be very large.

You’d be nuts to use a FP for anything right at 9:00. Even a 9:00 FP would ideally be used at 10:14. But I don’t think most people think it through that hard.

The good thing for a standby person is that at 9:01, only people with 9:00 and 9:05 FPs are eligible to even get in line. So even if many do go straight there, the FP line will be about 1/10th of the FP line later in the day.

We did this right away during EMH. Waited 5-10 minutes for them to open the doors into the queue area and another 15 minutes or so in line.

I guess I am nuts. I have a fast pass for Mickey for 9:10 so we can enter at 9:05. Not the best time but DH gets irritated with all the backtracking and since the train is down it’s not very convenient. It is DS1’s top priority. We have two other Magic Kingdom days that have better fast passes.

We normally do BOG PPO & head to 7DMT & PP. Or, if it's EMH, we do rope drop to PP.
This trip is no kids....my DH has only been with the grandkids so, I just decided to cancel our BOG ADR and decided to not be in the big rope drop crowd. Want to try a no rush morning.
I know him, he is not going to want to wait in any line for M&G...….but, I MUST have my Tink & Mickey pic. So, thought we could just stroll in around rope drop & not head where the other million people head..LOL. (been there, done that)
But, when Touring Plans said an hour ......it took me by surprise.
It is not really a MUST.......so, this will be a "let's see how it is" in the moment. And if not, I'll keep trying for a FP.

Thanks all for your responses.........Will let you know how it goes.

That is not nuts......if it was someone's top priority, I would do it 1st thing too. Everyone has their own way of planning.
But, I agree with you, it's not easy backtracking for this area of the park

First thing you need to know is that MK actually opens at 8:00 on a 9:00 a.m. opening. You can get in and onto Main St at 8:00.

SO, you need to get to MK a bit earlier than "right before opening." You will want to be at MK and through security and the turnstiles by 8:30 so that you can be first or near first in line for Mickey and Tink. This should mean a very short wait for this M&G and you can go on with your day.

Thanks...…...yes, I didn't state it correctly....I am meaning to be inside MK right before 9:00 opening. But, I don't want to be in the crowd for 8:00 for main street opening & don't want to be in the crowd for rope drop at the castle. So, was thinking of getting through security & turnstile around 8:30. I think I'm on the right track with what you are saying.
