M A C Makeup

Plus, there is the 'Back to MAC' promotion they always have. When you bring back six (6) empty MAC containers, you can get a lipstick free! Now if you bring your stuff back to a MAC boutique (not the counters like in Macy's) you can get a lipstick, lipglass, plushglass, dazzleglass or even an eyeshadow! I don't think I've paid out of pocket for a lip gloss yet. :thumbsup2

Wow, that's great to know. I would have gone back to Bendel's as they are so much closer to me. I didn't know about this promo. :cool1:

:goodvibes Thanks everyone.

You have given me such great reviews. It sounds like I have no choice, but to give it a try.

Questions: Are the Makeovers free? If you are looking to purchase from the MAC store? Do you need to make an appointment? I figure I'm going to be spending around $200 on cosmetics, am I right?

I'm off tomorrow from work and would love to call with some info to get me started. At least sound a little like I know how they work, instead of fumbling through the call. Sometimes I forget to ask all and then sound a bit out there, ya know what I mean? :rotfl:

I love MAC's Lipglass! Definitely the best gloss. However, I'm a mix-and-match-er! I use ColorScience for my "foundation"--I love the mineral makeup and this is THE BEST. I use drugstore mascara (whichever's a bargain). I'm currently using Benefit's gold lipstick as an all-time first choice (& fave!), and I use Lancome blush---pink and sparkly princess:

However, I think I've lucked out because I experiment alot with my aunt and cousin's stuff when I see them, they always lead me to what's hip and best...and I'm the youngest, so a LOT of experimenting over the years has set me up for success.

Personally, I would not buy a lot of makeup from any one brand that I had never tried before, just because you don't know how you'll react to the ingredients. I would hate to spend so much money, have a bad reaction, then toss it all. FYI, sometimes you can find MAC lipglass and other makeup at outlets...and yes they're still good and in code and cheaper than in the department or actual MAC stores.

Good luck with everything on your shopping day, I hope you find it enjoyable! Looking forward to hearing how you fare!

Here in southern CA, the MAC store charges $50 for a makeover. However, if you go to the MAC counter at Nordstrom, they will charge you the $50 but then credit that $50 for any purchases you make, so i would check it out!

I use a lot of MAC, most of it given to me by my sister. The eyeshadows are great, and I love the moisturizer. The lip glosses are also good. For undereye concealer, I use Bobbi Brown. The mineral powder for some reason made me really itchy when I tried it in the store, I had to take it off right away and my skin was all red, but the regular powder was fine.

It's Mary Kay for me all the way!!! My own mother has been using it since she was 18 (I'm 35). You can find a local consultant by going to their website and consultations are FREE!!!

All products are 100% guaranteed so if you get a color you don't like, you can swap it for another or get your money back no questions asked.

I've been using all MK products for over 6 years now and LOVE them!!
The eye liners ROCK and the cheek and eyecolors have all switched over to the mineral formula.

I have never had so many compliments on my foundation as when I started using thier Mineral Powder about 10 months ago. I will tell you, I thought it was a little dry and cakey feeling at first, so definitely moisturize first, and I do a VERY thin layer of liquid foundation before applying the mineral powder!

LOVE IT! I will never use anything else - it's high end quality with covergirl and maybelline pricing!

Just my two cents :flower3:

Wow, I wasn't charged when I went to Bendels. But then, I went in knowing the colors I wanted, from when my friend, the film set makeup artist made me up. So maybe since the MAC woman knew I was buying stuff, she didn't say anything when she started making me up to check on the colors, (which turned out to be spot on. :thumbsup2 )

OP, also, there are different liquid formulations. When I told the MAC woman about my film set makeup artist friend. She stopped & asked if I wanted a foundation for everyday wear or thicker for film sets. (The studio lights wash people out.) I told her I wanted everyday wear, but it had to be thick enough to cover my sun spots, yet be thin enough for the fine lines under my eyes, AND not clog my pores, as I break out like the dickens if foundation is even waved in my direction. :rotfl:

She gave me the "Select" formula instead of the Studio Fix. Also, while she was making me up, she asked if I simply wanted to dab on more foundation over my sun spots & dark circles, or did I want a concealer. Apparently, the foundation is so pigmented, I probably could have gotten away with just using extra foundation. But I went for the concealer tube with the sponge applicator. :)

Oh, also, once you know your foundation color, you can go to makeupalley.com and read the reviews. Many people list their MAC color, so you know what their complexion is, and whether a particular product may work on you own coloring. :thumbsup2

I am addicted to dazzleglass - I love them!! There isn't too much in the tube - Bare Necessity is my favorite!

Aren't they great?!? :cloud9: I have 'Love Alert' and 'Sugarrimmed'. Both have sold out where I live so I've put those two aside for Disney this Christmas. One of the MAC artists told me they plan to make the product a permanent part of the line in early January.

The only product I love more than the Dazzleglass is the Lustreglass. :lovestruc

I know I've never been charged for a makeover at MAC. And if the store is pretty 'dead' (usually in the early mornings), they love taking their time to make you over.

Woah, really? The MAC store in the Glendale Galleria? Granted it's been a few years since I've been back to LA but wow, they're charging now? Do you know if the MAC store in the Beverly Center or the one in Century City is doing this too?

Granted I usually get chased down by Mary Kay consultants all the time, I did try their stuff and got the worst allergic rash. Nothing against Mary Kay but me and their makeup just doesn't get along. I love the Satin Hands treatment though. :thumbsup2

A little OT, but is it only near me where the Mac counter is full of people with purple or green hair, TONS of really dark eye makeup and men in full makeup doing the makeovers?? It scares me!!

Don't be scared of them, if you don't want to get dark makeup, they're not going to give you dark makeup. You tell them what type of look you're going for when you're there for your makeover, and that's what they give you. They're awesome at what they do. And if you don't like one of the colors they put on you, you tell them and they'll take it off and change it. I ususally go to the mac counter when I need my makeup done for a birthday party, or wedding, or whatever. You make an appointment for a makeover, tell them waht your event is, what you're wearing, etc. and then you can buy the makeup they used so it's a good deal, IMO.

Thanks! I may give it a try. I need someone to do my makeup for my wedding in May and I don't want to pay to have someone come to my home.

Personally, I would not buy a lot of makeup from any one brand that I had never tried before, just because you don't know how you'll react to the ingredients.
I agree. I love Revlon's Colorstay eyeliner and won't switch from it for the world. On freshly washed eyelids, you apply it, get to smudge it around for a few moments, then it sets like a permanent marker and doesn't budge till it's washed off. At Rite Aid, on sale, I can get it for $4. So, I'm not going to overspend at a makeup counter for a higher priced brand that may not react to my skin as well & smear or turn to racoon eyes over time.

However, I tried Revlon's Colorstay lipsticks, thinking they would be just as good. And while they do stay on forever, I don't care for the colors or texture, so I don't buy them.

I swear by MAC's foundation & concealer & powder - to me that's the basis of a face. If those colors or texture are off, or look unnatural, it doesn't matter what else you put on top. But, it would actually be better to go to Sephora for the other makeup items & brands as Sephora has a satisfaction guarantee. You can bring any item back if it doesn't work for you.

Rite Aid does that too.

They're awesome at what they do. And if you don't like one of the colors they put on you, you tell them and they'll take it off and change it.

::yes:: A makeover should be so you can test the colors & find what is right for you. It's not about someone just putting stuff on you whether you like the end results or not. :scared1: If you aren't going to like the colors, you aren't going to buy them. That's the whole purpose of a makeover.

If you (general you) get a makeover done, you DO have to be proactive and vocal. You need to speak up and say, "Oh, I think that's too dark/light/bright/orangy for me," so they can change it, to find what you like. They know the colors at MAC, but that doesn't give them final say over what you want your face to look like. They are there to help you find a color that is more rose, more subtle, more smokey eyes, etc. YET, you do not have to buy every item they put on you. Even if you liked the blush, you can still opt not to buy it & go somewhere cheaper & get basically the same color, now that you know which colors works best.

I should amend what I said about my trip to Bendel's. I never asked for a makeover. I went in to buy the foundation & concealor. Since the MAC person's job is to upsell me on more products, of course she put the foundation & concealor on me...then had to add blush...then had to add a lipcolor... ;) So it turned into a makeover (and I didn't get charged. ):goodvibes

As a PP mentioned, the lipcolors were too bright for me, this time. So even though we spent a lot of time & I tried all the colors in the range I liked, I didn't buy one.

A little FYI: Origins makeup & skincare offer FREE facials & makeovers, too, at their stores. :woohoo: (It took around 45 minutes as she did both, so I did tip the woman $5 who worked on me after.) But, that's how they sell you products. I ended up buying a new lip color I love & a matching blush and a bag of samples.

Right before my birthday, I get sent a postcard for 10% off any item. :thumbsup2

Went to the MAC store in Orlando and came home with a bunch of products. I liked that they were able to help me pick out the products as I was leary about doing it over the internet. Here in Maine there is no MAC (nor Sephora). The make up I have been using wore off with in a few hours. Can't wait to see how MAC holds up. Plus after the MAC store I went to Sephora for a new skin product from Philosophy, line reducer from Clarins and concealer from Smasbox. Thank goodness there aren't any stores near by as I am in love with my new MAC lipstick and would go out and pick up a few more colors if I could.

i'm in the market for new makeup as well..i did hit sephora, they gave me the hd foundation - i think it is ok i got a sample - maybe i'll try Mac let us know how it goes...

everyone seems to love their lipgloss - i like lipglosses - whats so great about theirs?

everyone seems to love their lipgloss - i like lipglosses - whats so great about theirs?

I LOVE MAC's lipglosses because of four things:
  1. Vivid colors (from pastel to super bright)
  2. Performance (different formulas for different color appearance)
  3. Great moisturizing ingredients (shea butter, jojoba oil)
  4. I haven't had an allergic reaction

My favorite lipgloss formulas are the Lustreglass and the Dazzleglass. The former is lighter weight and the latter is so heavy you can drink a cup of coffee and the color is still on! :lmao:

Plus if you live near a MAC boutique, you can trade in your six empty containers for a lipgloss!

i always have ahard time w/foundation as i feel it on or i feel it just does not look totally naturaly i do like tinted moisturizer - currently using Loreal - does Mac carry tinted moisturizer? perhaps because i'm not a big makeup person at all..

My dd had a make over at the MAC counter at Nordstroms a couple of years ago. There was no charge.
