I'm sorry if this is cheesy, but I just heard one my favorite songs, and it's not very well known. So I thought I would make a "lyrics that give you chills" thread.

This one is by Angie Aparo. Probably best known for writing "Cry" that Faith Hill made famous.

It's called "Wonderland"

Take a piece of the sky
Make it rain cherry wine
Give her life, give her love
give her mine

I stand in the night with a silver sword
Killing her demons, beating them off her door
Sleep little baby, don't you cry
Daddy's got a worn out lullaby

And I'd live forever, dark and damned
If I could see you spend one minute, girl
In wonderland.

That song was obviously written from a daddy to a daughter,
and his voice is so powerful, it just puts me in another place!!

What songs do it for you?

I like threads like this. I dont know why but this always give me chills, its odd but it just hits a place deep in my heart

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves began to die?
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Knowing the tragedy behind the song, one of the first that come to mind is
Eric Clapton's song, "Tears in Heaven".

Angel by Sarah McLachlan. I always thought it was kind of depressing, then my aunt told me her friend's husband asked her to sing it at his funeral (he knew he was dying). So anytime I hear it I associate it with death. Then Jackie Evancho puts it on her latest album. Why have an 11 year old girl sing such a depressing song?

Bryan Adams - Have you every really loved a worman

When you can see your unborn children in her eyes.

Elton John's The Last Song

Oh yeah, that one gets me too!

I've always said the greatest love song ever was Dire Straits
"Romeo and Juliet"

I can't do the talk
Like the talk on the TV
I can't do a lovesong
Like the way it's meant to be
I can't do anything, but I'd do anything for you
I can't do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you
and the way we used to be
And all I do is keep the beat
and the bad company
All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Julie I'd do the stars with you, anytime

One of my favorites....ironic that it reminds me of Amy Winehouse today....

Wallflowers
Bringing Down the Horse (1996)
One Headlight

So long ago, I don't remember when
That's when they say I lost my only friend
Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease
As I listened through the cemetery trees

I seen the sun comin' up at the funeral at dawn
The long broken arm of human law
Now it always seemed such a waste
She always had a pretty face
So I wondered how she hung around this place

Chorus:
Hey, come on try a little
Nothing is forever
There's got to be something better than
In the middle
But me & Cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight

She said it's cold
It feels like Independence Day
And I can't break away from this parade
But there's got to be an opening
Somewhere here in front of me
Through this maze of ugliness and greed
And I seen the sun up ahead
At the county line bridge
Sayin' all there's good and nothingness is dead
We'll run until she's out of breath
She ran until there's nothin' left
She hit the end-it's just her window ledge

(chorus)

Well this place is old
It feels just like a beat up truck
I turn the engine, but the engine doesn't turn
Well it smells of cheap wine & cigarettes
This place is always such a mess
Sometimes I think I'd like to watch it burn
I'm so alone, and I feel just like somebody else
Man, I ain't changed, but I know I ain't the same
But somewhere here in between the city walls of dyin' dreams
I think her death it must be killin' me

(chorus)

Possiblity by Lykke Li - From New Moon

So tell me when you hear my heart stop,
Your'e the only one who knows..
Tell me when you hear my silence.
There's a possiblity I wouldn't know...

There are lots because I read song lyrics like poetry. I guess Creed's "My own Prison" gets me every time, I've always been my own worst enemy. I can sidestep others but when I tangle myself up, well that's a harder knot to loosen.

I cry out to God
Seeking only His decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison

Love Angie Aparao :thumbsup2 -- used to see him play live a lot in Atlanta many moons ago.

I can't even listen to that song it makes me so sad. :sad1:

Bryan Adams - Have you every really loved a worman

Considering that DH used that song in his proposal to me, I'll have to agree with that!

So many . . . where to start?

The Beatles - "Something"
The Beatles - "She's Leaving Home"
Green Day - "She"
Green Day - "Christie Road"
Elton John - "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"

Many, many songs from the 80s (Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, etc.).

Release (Lyrics)
Artist: Pearl Jam
Composer: Vedder/Gossard/Ament/McCready/Krusen
Lyrics:
I see the world
Feel the chill
Which way to go
Windowsill
I see the words
On a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain

Oh dear dad
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll ride the wave
Where it takes me
I'll hold the pain
Release me

Oh dear dad
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll wait up in the dark
For you to speak to me
I'll open up
Release me
Release me
Release me
Release me

White Blank Page by Mumford & Sons.

Can you lie next to her and give her your heart? Your heart, as well as your body?
Can you lie next to her and confess your love? Your love, as well as your folly?
Can you kneel before the king and say "I'm clean"? I'm clean.
So tell me now, where was my fault, in loving you with my whole heart?

Her white blank page and a swelling rage.
You did not think when you pushed me to the brink.
You desired my attention, but denied my affections.

So tell me now where was my fault, in loving you with my whole heart?
Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life.

My dad died at home, and when I left his house about 1 hour after he died to go to my place and get some clothes, etc. so I could stay with mom....I turned on the radio and this was the first song I heard. To this day it numbs me.

Bryan Adams - Have you every really loved a worman

When you can see your unborn children in her eyes.

That part chills me, too..

Rascal Flatt's God Bless the Broken Road (makes me reflect on my journey to motherhood..)

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Bette Midler's Wind Beneath My Wings

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Just lyrics? Some songs give me chills because of the music pairing with the lyrics like Conquistador by Procol Harem. Man I get chills from that song.

Pink Floyd

Good bye cruel world
Im leaving you today
Good bye, good bye, good bye.

Good bye cruel world
There is nothing you can say
To change my miiiiiinnnddd
Good bye

Now Muriel plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would --
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
And she said --
"Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight"
