Hi there! I'm new to posting but have been reading the boards for a few months in preparation for a future WDW trip. This will be a multi-generational trip with my husband, our sons, my parents, his parents, and our siblings & nieces. I'm getting the distinct impression that I'm more excited for this trip than some of the other adults In order to prevent the fam from being Disney-ed out before our trip (exactly how is that possible?!), I need an outlet of folks to talk Disney to, so naturally, creating an account and posting in the forums is the perfect solution!

Aren't they fun? They are available when you set up your signature in the formatting toolbar. Just click on the happy face icon and the menu will come up with all the choices.

Welcome! I'm new here too, and joined for both your reason and for all the advice about the planning process. DS1 is just as excited as I am; he'll be 9 when we get to WDW. DS2 will be 3, so currently, he's not able to express his excitement but I'll just assume he's excited, haha! My husband has been to WDW twice (before we met years ago) and he's excited to see me and our boys experience it for the first time. It's my in-laws who expressed an interest in going with us, but when I try to get an understanding of their preferences (like what they want to do, where they want to stay, how long they want to stay, etc), I get a bit of resistance. "We've got a lot of time (18 months) before we go, why talk about it now?" Because it's fun, that's why

Anyway, it's great to know I'm not alone in my excitement

My hubby is NOT an advance planner so me talking about it for months is going to wear on him, lol! He's spontaneous, and it usually works out for him, but I'm not taking any chances. We went to Disneyland just the 2 of us on St. Patrick's Day this year because we happened to be in Hollywood for a quick overnight business trip anyway and he spur the moment thought a day at Disney would be fun. He spent our time waiting in the standby line for BTMR calling the airline and changing our tickets home to the next day and at a different airport, and booking us a hotel. Then later he managed to sweet talk someone at Blue Bayou into sold-out Fantasmic dinner package seats. So it all worked out. But me...I intend to have everything planned out MONTHS in advance!!

That's reassuring! I'm definitely a type-A organizer, and where planning gets some people to break out into a cold sweat, I enjoy it! You're right, it'll be a bit of a challenge coordinating a trip with that many people, considering the range in ages and interests. My husband keeps reminding me that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink; all I can do is provide information as I learn it about WDW, and if our family members are indecisive, and thereby miss booking deadlines, at least I did what I could. *We're* going (DH, me & our boys) regardless!

I hope to be where you are someday, to be able to say I've been to WDW a half dozen times, that's wonderful!

JennysSeven my husband is not an advance planner either. However, in our seventeen years of marriage, the few times that we did "just wing it" either got us into big trouble or we missed something. Like the time he said, "Let's go hike around Lake Vesuvius. It's only about 3 miles." Never mind that it was actually 8 miles, and we didn't bring enough water with us. Not to mention our 10 year old son was with us. I could have killed him. Needless to say, his eyes may glaze over a bit when I ramble on about my Disney planning, must he never says a negative word. He knows that all my planning makes for a superior vacation for the family, and he is grateful.
Not to say there can't be some spontaneity at Disney, but it has to be more like "We've got two hours in which we could do theses things. What do you want to do?" So you just keep planning girl! It's worth it!

I think I would need bail money if my husband talked me into a 3-mile walk that in fact turned out to be 8!!!

Mine is always grateful when we go somewhere and I have carefully packed, prepared, etc., everything. But he still thinks I'm crazy for how much planning I do. And I *gasp* actually still plan stuff out on PAPER, of all the horrors, lol!

Yes, our first cruise ever! I have done DisneyLand a few times, mostly because I live in California and then Oregon, so making it down there was never really complicated. Now that we are in MO, its a whole "thing". We have 4 kids in our blended family, no family to stay with in FL so we are going all out. The price tag hurts, but you know, I have never seen even ONE person, despite the cost, say they wish they wouldnt have done it, or even that they wish that had done it different to save money. My oldest is in college now and she is coming with us. I am sure this will be our last vacation (and first as it so happens!) with her. Feel like we should make the most of it. Thankful for these boards so we can make sure to take advantage of all the stuff that gets missed by newbies and first timers!
