Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice. Someone im my group has a lung condition. Has anyone stayed at AKL with for example asthma and had problems? I also read something about incense or a burning smell in the lobby. Is this something they still do?

Thanks in advance!

I have bad asthma, allergies to dust and I've done one trip of 21 nights at AKL and one trip of 14 nights at AKL. I have never had a problem with my asthma whilst there. Not due to the resort anyway. It's affect sometimes by cold so going outside into the cold air once did trigger my asthma, but not within the resort or at warmer times, even when sitting out on the balcony.

You of course need to take your asthma medications as you never know when you will need them.

I also have asthma along with some other less common lung/ breathing problems and have been to AKL and did not have any problems at all.

We stayed at AKL in April and never saw or smelled any incense anywhere. Many guests have allergies/respiratory issues, etc., so I'm sure they never actually burn incense at any resort, just like they never allow smoking indoors.

That said, different resorts reportedly have different scents, as a PP noted. I've never consciously noticed that, though.

I've never smelled incense in AKL but there is a fire pit in the lobby of Jambo house and you can definitely smell the smoke from the kitchen at Boma. It's never given me any issues with my asthma but I didn't see it mentioned.

I don't recall the scents in all being any stronger than other hotel- beach club etc

there is also a fire pit which is lit at night outside the lobby at Jambo House, at the start of the observation path. It's not super close, but you might smell smoke from it if you are outside, are on one of the covered 'porch' observation areas overlooking that Savannah or as the doors from the lobby open.
