Lunch with Princesses - is it worth it?

The character lunch with the Princesses is sooo expensive. Is it really worth it? Am I right in thinking that you can still eat in the Auberge du Cendrillon, and have the glass slipper dessert thingy, but for much less money without the princesses? ie. it's the same menu in there, but you pay extra for the princesses to be there? Can you still queue to say hello to the princesses as a general meet & greet? we might do this instead if so.

You can only have the princess meal, and pay princess meal prices, at the Auberge de Cendrillon now.

For me, its prohibitively expensive, but for others who have been, they rave about the food.

Yes, the princesses still do meet n greets on the Castle stage every morning, so you can queue to see them that way. If you are lucky you can catch them in Fantasyland too, going to and from the gates near IASW.

If your DD or DS like Aladdin and Jasmine - they appear in Adventureland with no real queues at all .

And you can see Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip close up behind the Castle in the courtyard, they do a show there 3 times a day (I don't know if this will still be happening in October though, as its Halloween season when you will be there).

I would love to go to this but I am too mean to pay for it now .... the prices are totally unreal!...

When we go (low season) the princesses (and characters) are out and about all the time with hardly any queueing so going to wait and see them that way..I would rather let the kids buy an extra toy to take home...but thats just me!

We went last week and had a great time, the only princess we saw in the park was Jasmine and my niece especially wanted to see the Princesses, having said that both girls only ate the dessert and the character interaction was more sophisticated then fun, everything was very gentle and refined. Personally I probably wouldn't do it again.

I think it's worth it... If you have a girl who likes the princesses (like mine) it's great to be there esp since you don't know which ones will be by the Castle stage. They change every 30mins and it's very disappointing to be in the queue for so long and not see your favourite princess.

When we first went there it was buffet lunch and really yummy and ok priced food (we didn't meet any of the princesses then). Sadly they don't do that anymore. Last year, we booked to have dinner there, had no idea it would be a set menu or meet the princesses and we were all speechless. My DD1 adores Ariel and Prince Eric so when they greeted us the look on Mia's face was priceless...

Sorry just my opinion!

We went in April and I personally think it was worth it - and now that we've done it, we won't be doing it again just yet (there are too many other restaurants which I want to try out lol). The food was good and it was so nice to be able to meet/speak to the Princesses without having to rush or queue up. We saw Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel & Prince Eric (and the 2 mice, Suzy & Perla - my DS loved them!). DD was a bit disappointed that she didn't get to see Belle & Jasmin at the restaurant but she was well-chuffed that she saw Cinderella (her fav).

On our 1st visit to DLP, we queued up for more than an hour just to see the 2 princesses on the stage and we were on there for like a few seconds - take a pic and we had to get off the stage. Very rushed.

Shame that you can't go in there without paying princess prices - I really had my heart set on one of those glass slipper desserts (but that's more because it looks like solid white chocolate, ha ha! ) But I think you've all sold it to me now, it seems worth it to be able to meet lots of princesses, if you can't guarantee seeing them elsewhere. Mummyal, you mentioned not seeing Belle or Jasmine at the lunch - but is there always a good variety of princesses there, not just one or two? (are they randomly allocated, btw?) And last question - do the princesses actually spend much time with the kids, do they talk to the children?

For us only youngest DD would make the best of this so not ideal for a family of 5. From the reviews IMHO the menu is not the most child friendly

The glass slipper is actually quite "sickly" lol. I had a couple of bites of the kids' ones and that was enough lol.

I'm not sure whether Belle/Jasmine make an appearance here?! There are usually 4 princesses (and a prince) from what I've read from other reports. Maybe the others who have also been will be able to tell you more.

As for how much time they spend with the kids - I guess it depends on how chatty your kids are. My two are not very chatty when it comes to 'new' people (DS couldn't talk a lot yet then lol), so they didn't spend as long as they did with others. They must've spent at least a couple of minutes with us though - they asked DD who her fav princess is, is she having fun at DLP, what her fav rides are, etc. The 2 mice were circling around loads, which was great, as DS kept asking for the green mouse and the purple mouse (he couldn't talk much but he knew which were the more "important" words ).

I would've loved to have taken my niece in there last visit, but looking at the menu, I'm guessing we would've been making a trip to Casey's Corner straight after.

We specially requested the Children's dessert on our last visit for both adults and were given it

I've been three times as my DD loves the Princesses and has happily eaten two of the main courses .

I agree it is expensive but I prefer to pay a bit extra than queue at the castle stage and not know who you are going to meet.

Generally we have met 2-4 Princess and a Prince or two on each visit and of course Suzi and Perla.

Kids also get a little gift before they leave.

The Princesses are always very friendly and make a big effort to try to get the children to talk to them and of course they pose for really great photos !

That's disappointing that you can't get the lunch without the princesses anymore. For us, the price is an awful lot considering I'm quite a "selective" eater so wouldn't eat much of the food provided and DB of 10 has no interest in the princes / princesses.

We were hoping to go there for a standard lunch, but we'll just find somewhere else instead. Guess dlp food guide is in need of an update

Indeed it is; I guess I assumed most of it was talking about the dinner, especially as the early parts do talk about the old lunch. Either that, or I missed the bit which says they no longer do the lunch. Guess I should learn to read the threads in more detail

Would definately recommend. We went last year to celebrate dd sixth birthday. The staff were so attentive (maybe because it was dd's birthday ).

My daughter had chicken for her meal which she said was yummy. She was also impressed that her orange juice cocktail came in a glass with sugared frosted rim and cocktail umbrella etc. Dessert was a little too much but the highlight for my DD was when she had the pleasure of dancing with Prince Stefan ? ( sleeping beauty's beau) she was on and it took ages for her to come back down. Absolutely priceless.

If your DD is princess mad this has to be done, even if it is only once

Sounds like your daughter had a wonderful meal there- Those memories must be priceless....

For us this was worth it. We've done it twice and we'll probably even do it again - in fact I don't think it would feel like a trip to Disneyland for my daughter without it. Thats a nice expensive trap we've set for ourselves there isn't it?! We're foodies so we really appreciate the food, and both children, even my son, enjoy the character interaction hugely. I've done a park scrum with Belle once, and never again, so I consider some of the cost of this to be paying NOT to have to do that. Also it's very nice wine and cocktails and while we wouldn't buy them in the daytime if we were paying separately, it should be remembered that the price includes generous portions of alcohol, bread, coffee and a gourmet 3 course meal.
Having said all that, if you don't have a princess-lover in your family this is probably not for you.
