Lunch with an Astronaut

Has anyone done this? What is it like and is it worth it?

THat sounds really interesting - What is the cost? How long is lunch? I take it that this is at NASA -

I got to do something similar to this in Houston; I was on a conference "field trip" and we heard two astronauts speak (absolutely fabulous). We then went down to lunch, and because one of them was standing right next to me, I asked if he'd like to sit with us We had some very interesting conversation; if I'd known I'd get this chance I probably would've had more questions to ask, but we talked about his background, his family, what it was like for him and them for him to have this occupation, how he happened to go to the Air Force Academy, how his experiences had affected his faith...all sorts of things. I really wished I'd had my sons with me!

I'm curious - what did he say about it affecting his faith? Helped or hindered?

Helped...made it bigger, gave him a vision of the miracle of God's creation and how enormous time and space are and, by comparison, how small we are, and yet beloved of God. Interestingly, also made him inclined to believe that there is likely life elsewhere in the universe. The other astronaut who spoke to the whole group had spent quite a long time on the space station; he suggested something along the lines of sending up to the station the leaders of countries/areas that have long been embattled, and after they'd spent a week in silence getting some perspective by watching the earth under them--so beautiful, no borders, so intricate and incredible--settling them down to talk again...and they stay there until they can agree!

What a great idea to send the leaders up to the space station - I think that is a fantastic idea - I bet it would work too - If not, we could just leave them up there !
