Lunch via the monorail ?

My wife and I are taking our granddaughter [and her Mom] to Disney for our grandaughters 11th birthday. We only have 3 full days in the area and plan to hit the MK, AK, and Hollywood Studios .. one park per day. We will have a rental car and will be staying offsite over on I-Drive.

Is there a way that on one of those days we could take a monorail ride to a nice restaurant besides the character dining in the Contemporary Resort ? Ideally we'd like to take a monorail "sidetrip" and eat in 2-3 hours.

All three of the monorail resorts have restaurants. The Contemporary has the Wave (no characters) and California Grill (Signature and dinner only). The Grand Floridian has the Grand Floridian Cafe, 1900 Park Fare (characters, breakfast and dinner only), and several Signature dining locations (dinner only). The Polynesian has Kona Cafe and 'Ohana (breakfast or dinner only).

My family has eaten at the Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch and they liked it. The dessert sampler plate was amazing (four little desserts). That was my favorite part of the meal. It would also give you a chance to look at the Grand Floridian Resort. The atmosphere is quiet, with a touch of formality.

[Edit: Narcoossee's is only for dinner, so this won't apply for you] We've also eaten at Narcoossee's, which is one of the three Signature dining venues at GF. That was one of the best meals we had at WDW. I would highly recommend Narcoossee's, if you looking for something a little more fancy.

Over the Polynesian, I've only eaten at the Kona Cafe for breakfast, but that was very good. The atmosphere at the Poly is very relaxed.

You can easily get to any of these resorts from the MK.

You could absolutely take the monorail to a resort (not sure if you are speaking of lunch or dinner, as some do not serve lunch)and here are your choices:

At the Contemporary:

At the Poly:

Kona Cafe
Ohana

At the Grand Floridian:

Grand Floridian Cafe
Citricos
Narcoosee

You could also take a boat ride to the Wilderness Lodge:

Whispering Canyon Cafe

I stayed at the Poly years ago and the Kona Cafe was really very good. It will be perfect for lunch; and I can get a caffeine jolt with some of that 100% Kona coffee. Mmmmmmm ....

If you have kids - I vote for the WL Wgispering Canyon Cafe - a nice boat ride from MK. Have your kids ask for a wooden nickel from the check in area.

If you are a couple- or all adults- I vote for the GF Grand Floridian Cafe, Very nicely decoarated.

I have an unusual suggestion, but I hope you like it. The Grand Floridian has an afternoon tea. It is wonderful and the food is scrumptious!! It would be a lovely birthday treat for a girl turning 11!

There were men, women, girls there, but I didn't notice any young gentlemen (boys). Fancy, china cups, lots of choices and a beautiful setting!
