Lunch V Dinner Portions?

We'll be on the dining plan on our upcoming trip, and I'm noticing that some restaurants, such as Coral Reef, have many of the same items at lunch as at dinner, but the price is higher for dinner. I'm curious as to whether the portions are larger at dinner, or is it simply priced higher in the evening? I'm thinking planning lunch ahead of time might be easier for us than determining where we'll be at dinner time - but I'd also like to maximize our dining plan experience. Thanks!

Generally, portions sizes at lunch, when the menu price is lower, are smaller, but it isn't a consistent thing. Portion sizes sometimes vary day-to-day, with no change in price, so it isn't something we can rely on.

We at at Le Cellier on the DDP last May for lunch. Holy cow, my husband and I were both so full when we were finished, I thought they were going to have to roll us out of there. It was disgusting. In a good way. We ate a very light dinner after that, much later, as I recall. I remember having a chocolate raspberry milkshake, soup, we both had the filet as an entree, and then we were served dessert.

I think possibly it also depends on what you are being served. For example, if you ordered steak, my guess is that it is already a certain amount of ounces for that entree, and it doesn't matter if it's lunch or dinner. But if it's pasta, possibly it's smaller.

We ate lunch at Coral Reef in October and didn't get the fresh bread (a highlight at CR). The server told us bread didn't come with lunch, only dinner. I guess my prime rib was a little small since I ordered it for lunch, but it was fine for me. I wanted the pasta dish, but it wasn't on the lunch menu and asked the server if I could order it and he said NO. I tried, so now I have to go back next month and get the pasta dish for dinner.

Well that settles it for Coral Reef - my husband is a BIG bread eater and will miss out on the bread if we have lunch there! I'm still working out all the meal days/times, so I'll pencil in Coral Reef for dinner!
