"Please don't te'll anyone about this hidden escape". "Lacking crowds". "Gracious staff". "Nice views of the greens". "SANITY"

All of which Uncleromulus has been saying for several years now, but all the above is from the new WDW Zagat Guide!! BUt you'll need to go soon. Sadly, the Sand Trap is on the chopping block thanks to that new non Disney Four Seasons conglomeration going up in almost the excat spot. It may stay open for a couple of years at best--or maybe close sooner. Either way a sad ending for a fine restaurant. I'll be sorry to see it go.

As to lunch. We arrived at just about noon on Saturday and went straight to the bar where Mike (OrlandoMike on our boards) was taking care of things. Only a few people in the Trap, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves.
Mrs U ordered her usual glass of wine while I had a Sierra Nevada. She got the blackened chicken sandwich with fresh fruit as a side, while I (instead of that great Cobb salad they have) had the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, along with a side of potato salad. Both were excellent as has been everything we've ever eaten at the Trap. As I've mentioned before, you really can't get anything BUT lunch at the Trap--no danger of ordering a full size meal, then finding yourself too full for dinner.
So we enjoyed a nice peaceful lunch, some good conversation with Mike, and left with an intent to return again when we go back to WDW in December!!

Note: The Trap also serves breakfast, which we enjoyed the morning of our scheduled Backstage Safari Tour. They open at 6:30 AM, a much more convenient time than the usual 7:30 AM for most other breakfast places. Veronica was our server that morning, and we had eggs ,ham and potatoes (me) and French Toast w/ bacon (Mrs U). Plus some good coffee. And we were able to eat w/o a rush and got to the AK in plenty of time for the tour!

I never even knew about this place! You know all the best spots,
thanks for sharing popcorn::

Thanks for the reminder...I know you have mentioned this place before, but since we never hear about it, I keep forgetting to try it. My DH is a golfer, so I am sure he would enjoy the atmosphere. Do they take the DDE card? Are there eggs benedict on the breakfast menu? Thanks!

Sounds great - I like the idea of being able to get an early breakfast there also.

Wildernesslodgelover:
No Eggs Benedict I'm afraid..but they do accept DDE.

thanks UncleR; this has made our Oct. trip agenda for lunch along w/Olivia's and YC Galley (Lunch is the best meal of the day, per my DFi!)
how exactly do we get there, I THINK it's on the road if you leave the MK and go straight until you hit the tollbooths and then turn left, but I'm not positive...
how were things w/Disney dining overall?

It's on Vista Blvd, right adjacent to Fort Wilderness. From OKW, just take Bonnett Creek past Port Orleans. Hang a left at that light and you're there.
From the MK you would take a left, but not sure before or after the toll booths.
Overall things were just fine at CG, Flying Fish, and V&A. No lessening of quality, service or portion size (or menu choices) than from previous trips.

Oh, no....I didn't know the clubhouse and Sand Trap were being razed for Four Seasons. I thought it was just one of the golf course. What a shame.

Anyway, I enjoyed your review. It is a hidden gem. I agree that it is nice that breakfast is served so early. I noticed this trip that GFCafe starts serving at 7am according to the checkin material. I have to remember that, too.

luvpooh, if you are leaving the MK parking lot, you would need to exit and then find the turnback lane to approach the MK tollbooths. Go to one of the far right tollbooths as you must follow a single lane on the far right as the rest of the traffic swoops left toward the MK parking lot. Take a right at the stop sign and it's not far past the FW entrances.

But be very careful taking the turnback to the MK....I've seen more than one accident there.

Thanks for the review Uncleromulus!

Are the Sand Trap and Cali Grill reviews the only two you've posted so far? I have been hunting around and can't seem to find another...

Still working on them. Got called in to the Vet Hospital because someone's off this week--so hard to find the time. Wolfgang Puck's Fine Dining will be next!!
