Lunch $$ more than Dinner at Akershus in Norway

My DD will turn 8 during our trip to WDW and her absolute fave princess is Mulan, so we are doing Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in the AM (already bought the Mulan crown and fan on clearance at Disney Shopping $4.95) and will bring our own kimono, since the costume is tough to find. Then I want to take her to Epcot, where we will most likely see Mulan at China, but I thought we would also do the Princess meal at Norway for the extra Mulan experience (hopefully!).

I was browsing the menu and saw that lunch cost a few dollars more than dinner, which is the opposite of every other buffet. Does anyone have any idea why? I don't mind which meal we eat, but I'm curious about the cost difference - is it food choices, or does it have something to do with little girls not wanting to go out late for dinner with a princess? It seems a little strange.

Thanks for your help,

Dinner is more than lunch. Allears shows dinner at $29.99 and lunch at $24.99 per adult. "Holiday" surcharges apply at certain times of the year and may raise this price about $3-5.

I think you must be looking at something incorrectly. I looked here and allears and both show dinner costing more.

:lmao: I am getting old(er) :rolleyes1 , but I just looked again and here's what the DIS menu tells me:

Lunch (Updated: 05/08)
Entree/Main Course

Royal Feast for Adults - The Royal Feast begins with a "Taste of Norway," sliced deli meats, seafood, and a grand selection of prepared salads, cheeses, and breads. The Lunch Entree Selections include: Pasta Akershus, Braised Lamb, Soup & Sandwich: Jarlsberg cheese & leek soup paired with Pan Seared Salmon on Toasted Multigrain Bread, Pan Seared Trout, Pulled Pork and Traditional Kjottkake. The Royal Chef's Dessert Plate includes: Traditional Rice Cream, Chocolate Mousse, and Lingonberry Cheesecake (served on one plate to be enjoyed by everyone). Non-alcoholic beverage included with meal. - $30.99 *

That's $2 more for lunch. :confused3

It's no big deal, I was just wondering why that was the case, like something more special happens at lunch, or the food's more varied or what????? I guess it's a typo.

If you look at the menu on allears, it shows $24.99 for lunch (menu date of February 2008) and $29.99 (menu date of June 2008) for dinner.

I just want to put in a little warning...don't get your hopes up too high about seeing Mulan at Akershus. When I was researching this restaurant to see if there was anyway to tell what day(s) Belle & Ariel would be there, I read post after post where people told which characters they saw....I'm just obsessive enough that I kept a log even to see if there was a rhyme or reason to when each appeared. Mary Poppins came in last, with no one having seen her there, and Mulan was mentioned only twice out of several hundred replies. Not good odds.

On the other hand, we saw Mulan a great number of times, with Mushu in China....right outside the large temple building, for photos and autographs. My girls dressed up in the kimonos and the crown/fan (from Disney shopping on clearance too, lol) for the first day of Chinese New Year and it made for some really wonderful photos of them and Mulan, and Mushu. She was quite pleased that they had on their traditional clothing for the holiday, lol. Mushu kept high fiving them!

If your daughter will be just as happy to see the other princesses, then go ahead and do Akershus. The food at breakfast is much more "American" than at lunch/dinner, so if she's not an adventurous eater then breakfast may be better for that reason. We enjoyed dinner, but my girls have travelled a bit and are used to non-Americanized food.

If your daughter will be unhappy because Mulan isn't there, then I'd suggest not spending the high dollars for this meal when your chances are so slim. Instead, hang out in China and even ask if Mulan will be coming out anytime that day (or maybe ask about other days in the week even). Consider eating at either the Chinese TS or the Chinese CS....both were ok, rather Americanized so most people usually would like (we've been the China, so we were hoping for more authentic). Your daughter won't see Mulan at these restaurants, but she will get a lot of loving attention being in costume.....and you can remind her that she's eating food that Mulan would eat at home.

It's too bad that they can't be a little more forthcoming about who will be actually appearing, though I can imagine that would be a nearly impossible scheduling feat, since they likely don't even know which characters will be under hire 180 days from now, lol, let alone whom will be working which day. When we arrived a bit early for our ADR at Akershus we asked if Ariel and Belle would be there and the CM told us that he couldn't say because he didn't know when the different ladies would be arriving and leaving (and said an aside to me that they were there NOW, but could be going off duty at any time). We got lucky and Belle was greeting and Ariel came around to the table once.....and the second time they all came around it was Aurora instead of Ariel, so we just squeaked by I think.

I'm not really trying to discourage you from Akershus, just wanting to be sure you realize the chances are rather slim of seeing Mulan there. Not impossible of course, but I'd hate to have your daughter get her hopes up too high. I'd been secretly hoping to see Mary Poppins, lol...but that didn't happen either. We had Cinderella, Belle (greeting), Ariel, Aurora and Jasmine.
