Ok, I've looked at the menus. Nothing seems to stick out at MGM. We would be doing a quick service meal for lunch. What are your guys favorite places to eat there (quick service mind you)?

Although it gets mixed reviews, we enjoy Pizza Planet. The pizza has really improved over the past few years and the salad for some reason always hits the spot. :)

This is my favorite place to dine at MGM. The food and the service are great!!! Pretty quick with the food coming from the kitchen, but still hot and tasty!!

I actually really enjoyed my lunch at Backlot Express - I had the Grilled Turkey & Cheese sandwich, similar to a panini on a great seeded bread, and available with either fries or cranberry slaw (I had carrots when I was there last Sept.). Very tasty! My DH didn't enjoy his Sesame Chicken Salad as much, but he definitely helped me finish my sandwich. :)

We all like the Backlot Express too. Everyone found something they liked and we shared the desserts, the service was fast and prompt. Good seating too.

We ate 1 time at MGM and that was Pizza Planet. I was not that impressed with any of the food! Many posts indicate that Sci-Fi and 50's Primetime are good. That's what we'll be doing. Not Pizza Planet. ::MinnieMo

Just got back and 1 day we had lunch at the Sci-fi diner. Doesnt seem to be to popular on here, but I thought the food was good. The atmosphere is great and its quiet in there as everyone is watching the cheesy horror/sci fi movies on the screen.
For counter service, Pizza Planet is good. Lots of cheese on the pizza though, so if you dont like triple cheese on your pizza, I'd pass.

Sci Fi and Prime Time are not quick service restaurants so if you have your heart set on quick service don't plan on these.

Another vote for the Backlott Express. We eat there multiple times on each trip. The food is pretty basic, but tasty. It's nice and cool in the summer and large, plenty of seating.

We have eaten at Mama Melrose, and Sci-Fi.

We enjoyed Sci-fi. After mixed reviews, I was nervous. We all got burgers, fries, and shakes. With a PS, we were seated in less than 5 minutes. I don;t think the whole meal took over 45-50 minutes.

Mama Melrose would be a longer meal, but very very good. Quiet, and a nice break from the parks. My DDs both fell alseep, in the AC, and DH, and I almost did too.

Counter service at MGM, gets very discouraging reviews, on these boards. I've only gotten a turkey leg there, and they are the same everywhere. Sorry I can't help with the fast food options.

Have fun on your trip.

When we are at MGM we get a 4:30 ressie with fant dinner package, and that morning we eat a light breakfast.

Have been to Hollywwod and vine and have enjoyed it. For my upcoming trip I plan on trying the Brown and Derby--my friends can not believe that I have not done that one yet and it was highly recommended by them!! Even with our kids!!(our kids are the same age)

I agree....and you wanted quick....Backlot has my vote for the quickest and the best..est!

We just did Sci-Fi for lunch last week, and I was a little disappointed. It was my fault though...I didn't realize that the way you sat, you don't really sit together. With a family of 5, one person basically has to eat alone. Not what I wanted, but like I said, I should've researched and known this. The food was average, but the shakes were good!

I have heard that there is no decent place for food at MGM. We ate at pizza planet and I did not care for it. The indor seating is up a steep set of stairs and it is hard to dodge uncoming children whilt carrying a full tray of food up the stairs. Then we had to wait to get a table. Blah blah blah....Sorry for the rant. I would not reccomend Pizza planet. ;)

DH recommends mama melrose's for lunch. we went a few years ago with DM and all 3 of us liked it...great food and a nice quiet break from the park to recharge for the rest of the day.

50s Prime Time Cafe was also pretty good for lunch, but not as relaxing as Mama Melrose.

we've also had good meals at brown derby, but it is a bit pricey, unless you do this for lunch and plan for a counter service dinner.

Definitely don't do ABC Commissary...we hated the burgers, the most basic thing on the menu.

Last November we tried the best kept secret at MGM: Starring Rolls. It's more than a bakery. When you walk in, all you see are pastries. Just around the corner the case is filled with delicious sandwiches & salads. I had the best grilled veggie sandwich ever, DH had a smoked salmon he still raves about, and DBIL had an awesome steak sandwich.
