Lunch boxes

Maybe it is just here but once kids hit 10/11 and are in Jr High (6th grade) they wouldn't be caught dead carrying a lunch box! Its all paper bags/plastic bags (like from the grocery store)....I was so glad I hadn't bought a new one for my daughter last year when she was 10 and went into Jr high cause it would have be wasted!

The boys around here do this, but the girls in middle school here use lunch boxes/bags, mainly from LL Bean, PB Teen and some Vera Bradley. Must be a regional thing. We have family in Charlotte and the son doesn't do a lunch box (going into high school this year), but the daughter does (going into middle).

I need to find new lunch boxes for my boys DS10 and DS7. Since they are getting older I need to find something bigger than the little things they sell at Target but I also don't want to break the bank.

I usually put a water bottle (reusable) and blue ice in their pack, so that takes a lot of room. I find that water bottles almost always leak, so I need a lunch box that will hold any leaks.

Any suggestions?

My son has always just gone with the flow... but last year (7th grade) he "lost" his brand new lands end lunch box til the last week of school! I was annoyed but got over it and will just have him brown bag it this year.

We love lands end lunch boxes and backpacks. They last and come in several sizes. I also love lands end customer service. We had an issue with a jacket one year and they sent a new one that day, no questions asked.

I saw tha packit comercial and was thinking of trying it. DS10 will not eat anything other than PB&J because he does not like when the lunch meat gets warm. Last years had no room for an ice pack. This past weekend I found a nice Columbia one at Kohls. With the sale and 15% discount it came to $9. It opens at the top and has plenty of room to put an ice pack and taller stuff in it. Also has a side pocket.

Who knew finding just the right lunch box would be such a problem-lol.

How do kids keep their lunch fresh in a brown bag without an ice pack?

I stopped with lunch boxes in high school (graduated a handful of years ago now) because they were a pain to carry around all afternoon.

I usually took turkey sandwiches and yogurts with no problems. Left my house around 7:30 and had lunch around 11:10. Occasionally I would take a lunch box with a salad, but that was a rare occasion.
